Maddy’s Theatre @ the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine celebrates 102 years of Children's Theatre

Maddy's Theatre opened in its permanent home on Thompson's Point as part of the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine in 2021. Maddy's Theatre at CMTM is the oldest, continuously running children's theatre in the nation, celebrating 100 years in 2023.

🧅 SHREK THE MUSICAL: THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES VERSION (running March 28 - April 26, 2026)

📅 Auditions: Tuesday, October 22 & Wednesday, October 23, 3 pm – 5 pm
CMTM, 250 Thompson’s Point Rd, Portland, ME

No preparation required – auditions will include theatre games and teamwork activities. Just bring your energy, creativity, and readiness to play!

This is a unique opportunity to perform alongside adult actors in a collaborative, imaginative environment featuring ensemble building, puppetry, music, and movement.

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking adult performers for two upcoming productions:

🦇STELLALUNA (Winter 2026)
🧅SHREK THE MUSICAL: THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES VERSION (Spring 2026)

This is a unique opportunity to:
- Perform in professional productions for family audiences
- Collaborate with youth actors in a creative ensemble environment
- Explore roles that incorporate music, movement, puppetry, and ASL

STELLALUNA Casting Notes:

🦇This piece brings its characters to life through physical theatre, music, and visual storytelling, and the ensemble will be built around the unique artistic strengths of the cast. Performers with backgrounds in movement, music, puppetry, or visual art are strongly encouraged to apply.

🦇The production will integrate American Sign Language (ASL) as a core element of its storytelling. Actors with experience with ASL are strongly encouraged to audition.

🦇We are looking for one actor with accompanist experience (or similar musical ability).

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is looking for a Production Director of Artistic Integration of ASL (contracted position) to help incorporate signing into our upcoming production of STELLALUNA (opening February 2026).

The Production Director of Artistic Integration of ASL will:

⭐ Support the production director’s vision in bringing the play to life.
⭐ Work with the production director to identify moments where ASL enhances the storytelling of the production.
⭐ Collaborate with the choreographer and music director to seamlessly integrate signing into the music and movement of the play.
⭐ Coach adult and youth actors of varying skill levels to learn and understand the lines that need to be signed.

Rehearsals run December 1, 2025 – January 30, 2026, with an orientation on November 12, 2025.

Application Deadline: October 17, 2025, or until a candidate is found.
