MEET POISON WATERS
Our Illustrious hostess for “Brunch and Bad Choices”, Resonance Ensembles joyful season opening fundraiser/pajama-party/boozy brunch cabaret .

Dr. Poison Waters is not just a personality—Poison is an experience! For nearly four decades, Poison (and alter ego Kevin Cook) has captivated audiences across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, bringing joy, humor, and heart to stages, benefits, and community events.

A beloved Portland icon, Poison has spent her career entertaining, connecting, and raising money for causes close to her heart, including HIV/AIDS awareness, LGBTQ+ communities, animal welfare, and children’s organizations. Her many honors include an honorary doctorate from Portland State University and the 2025 and 2026 Willamette Week Best of Portland award for Best Drag Queen.

From the Portland Rose Festival to Oregon Ballet Theatre, Pink Martini to Portland Community College, Poison has made her mark as a performer, host, educator, activist, and community champion. Now, she brings that same fabulousness, energy, and heart to Resonance as the host of Brunch & Bad Choices.

Whatever the title, event, cause, or venue, one thing remains the same: Poison Waters is, as we’ve always known her, “the smile on the face of Portland.”

Individual tickets for “Brunch and Bad Choices” start at $50 and go on sale Sept 1.

We are so proud of this amazing recording, the stories that it tells, the experiences it illuminates, the fearlessness with which it confronts hard topics, as well as the skilled and passionate voices that breathed life into these incredible pieces.

This week, we took a small but exciting step in celebrating this recording: “Safe Harbor” has been submitted for grammy consideration.

Critics have called it “consistently inventive, expressive, melodic, and highly accessible” (Ken Meltzer) and “Not only recommended, but essential” (Mark Gabrish Conlon)

The album explores complex and relevant issues around social justice and ancestral memory, how we move forward together, and how we listen deeper and understand one another.
