Thank you textura.org for reviewing Resonance Ensemble's Safe Harbor:
"On the double-album release Safe Harbor, the innovative Portland-based choral outfit Resonance Ensemble performs twelve world-premiere commissions that capture the challenging times we live in and explore issues of race, sanctuary, resilience, and hope. Presented in two sections, REflect, which meditates on histories, and REimagine, which invites listeners to imagine a world of safety, inclusion, and connection, the recording aspires to be transformative and meets that goal. The works confront head-on real-world matters such as the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and the dangers young Black men encounter in their dealings with the authorities. Whereas the titular work by Joe Kye grapples with another pressing issue, the immigrant experience and the ongoing humanitarian crises at our borders, the live rendition of Mari Esabel Valverde's We Hold Your Names Sacred honours the memory of transwomen of colour who've lost their lives. It's impossible to hear Safe Harbor and not be affected."

We’re grateful to share that Resonance Ensemble has been awarded a grant from the Rossotti Family Foundation—our first time receiving this support.

Grounded in a commitment to equity, education, and the power of the human voice, the Foundation supports organizations working to expand access and opportunity.

This funding strengthens the work you see on stage: commissioning new music, supporting artists, and building meaningful connections through music and community.

Season Finale · June 7 | 2PM

Resonance Ensemble closes the season with A Grain of Sand, Revisited, in collaboration with A Thousand Tongues.Inspired by the groundbreaking 1973 album by Chris Iijima, Nobuko Miyamoto, and Charlie Chin, this program brings historic Asian American protest songs into conversation with new choral works by composers across the diaspora.

Conducted and co-curated by Paolo Debuque, Adrianna Tam, and Shohei Kobayashi, the program features solo voices, storytelling, and archival imagery, asking us to consider what is at stake in revisiting and redefining Asian America today.

🌈 On Trans Day of Visibility, Resonance Ensemble honors transgender lives and raises awareness of the work still needed to end discrimination and harm.

It's the perfect day to watch “We Hold These Names Sacred,” a commissioned work featuring the poetry of Dane Figueroa Edidi and music by Mari Esabel Valverde. Resonance Ensemble commissioned this piece as one of 27 choruses across North America as part of GALA Choruses’ Commissioning Consortium and brought it to life as a film in 2021.

We stand with and uplift our trans and nonbinary community—today and every day—and are especially grateful for PFLAG, whose work supports trans and nonbinary loved ones year-round.
