What if?
Sometimes that’s all it takes.
I looked at this painting—with all its color, texture and layers—and had an AHA moment:
What if I covered the entire thing in black?
There was no guarantee it would work.
But that’s part of making art.
Sometimes you have to stop protecting what already exists long enough to discover what else it could become.
So I followed the idea.
The color disappeared.
The texture didn’t.
In fact, I began seeing the surface more clearly—the ridges, marks, imperfections and movement catching light in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
One painting became another simply because I was willing to ask a question.
What if?
And then find out.
