Yesterday was a preview night for Pillows.

A night of many firsts:
- first show in Portland
- first time The House Studio fully worked as a black box
- first time using our new lights
- first time using a kabuki drop
- first time trying English audio subtitles
- first English-speaking audience

And we don’t even have photos yet, so here are a few from our Seattle performance. Thank you Prophoto Marina Savilova Seattle

Not everything was perfect. But something was very real.

We felt the audience. We saw you smile, react, and lean in.
Some moments landed. Some still need work - and with so many firsts in one day, that’s inevitable.

That’s what previews are for.

✨ We have great news!
Fool House has received a grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust, and thanks to this support, we are continuing to transform The House Studio into a full black box theater — a flexible, modern space for performances, rehearsals, classes, and bold creative experiments.

And now — some important information we want to share with everyone who loves the arts as much as we do ❤️.

🎁 How the Oregon Cultural Trust Tax Credit works (and why it feels a little like magic)

Oregon has a truly unique mechanism for supporting the arts — the Oregon Cultural Trust Tax Credit. And honestly, it’s one of the best ways to support culture without any additional cost to you.

Here’s how it works:

You make a donation to any Oregon cultural nonprofit (for example, to us ❤️).

Then you make a matching donation to the Oregon Cultural Trust.

And you receive 100% of that matching amount back as a credit on your Oregon state taxes.

The limits are simple:
• up to $500 for individual taxpayers
• up to $1,000 for couples filing jointly
• up to $2,500 for Class-C corporations

So if you donate $300 to a cultural nonprofit and then donate $300 to the Cultural Trust, your Oregon state tax is reduced by exactly $300.
No tricks — just legally approved tax magic. 🧙‍♂️✨

🕒 To make it work:

Donations must be made before December 31.

When filing your OR-40, simply enter the amount under Oregon credits — line 51.

Or pass the donation confirmations to your tax preparer.

🌱 Why it matters

Every dollar that goes through this mechanism stays in Oregon’s cultural ecosystem — supporting theaters, museums, libraries, artists, and community organizations like ours.

Fool House has received a Cultural Development Grant from Oregon Cultural Trust. This support arrives at the perfect time and will help us open our doors wider to our community.

What this grant makes possible at The House Studio:
• Finish equipping our black-box space — installing/optimizing theatrical lighting, sound, and control so artists can create with professional tools.
• Expand our Affordable Rentals program — more discounted rehearsal and performance time for immigrant and refugee artists.
• Grow community programming — performances, lectures, classes, play readings, and our “Conversations Over Tea” series throughout the 2025–26 season.
