The 1905 is proud to be Portland's only full-time jazz club. It references the year the first Italian pizzeria opened in the United States.

The idea behind The 1905 is to provide a culturally inclusive venue so the community can connect through experience, atmosphere, food, and drink. This is not only significant because of our food fare, but because it’s symbolic of the melding of culture -- what was once an Italian import is now a quintessential part of the American experience. As such, The 1905 celebrates the Portland community as a whole and wants to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Classic songs and original music from four mainstays of the Portland Jazz Scene!

Jack Radsliff is on the short list of jazz guitarists in the Pacific Northwest. As a bandleader, his trio featuring Patrick Golichnik and Michael Raynor, has become a fixture at clubs throughout the region. As a collaborator, Radsliff is a first-call for many; frequently playing in the bands of Ron Steen, Michael Raynor, Cyrus Nabipoor, Galen Clark, Christopher Brown, Chuck Israels, Alan Jones, Kerry Politzer, George Colligan, Dan Balmer, Idit Shner, Kathleen Hollingsworth, Torrey Newhart and many more: a veritable who’s who of Oregon’s jazz musicians. In addition to his steady work around the PNW, last year afforded Jack opportunities to work with Jonathan Pinson, Greg Ward, Xavier Lecouturier and the Domo Branch/Charlie Brown Big Band; release his sophomore record “Barefoot” (PJCE Records) featuring Randy Porter, Todd Sickafoose and Alan Jones; and tour the west coast extensively with Ian George, Cyrus Nabipoor and the Jack Radsliff Trio.

Trumpet player, award-winning producer, music licensing A&R, and family man. Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians in the game, releasing dozens of records spanning jazz, funk, Latin music, soul, hip hop, lo-fi and more.

Throughout his illustrious career, Farnell has toured the world playing with multi Grammy winner Jill Scott, the legendary Bootsy Collins, and The Portland Cello Project to name a few. Farnell has also shared the stage with a who's who of world-class artists, including Aretha Franklin, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Preservation Hall, Stevie Wonder, Karl Denson, Lettuce, George Duke, and more.

When he's not on stage, Farnell is composing and recording music for Marmoset and his own sync start-up, Formation Sound. His songs have graced commercials for Uber, Adidas, Puma, Facebook, NFL, Redbull, and many renowned brands. Farnell is based in Portland, Oregon.

Sherry’s performances are an exploration of the great song writers and story tellers of the past and present. Her clear tone and improvisatory vocal approach create fresh and nuanced musical experiences. Her debut album You Can Have Him was released in 2011 on Teal Creek Records. She is also the featured vocalist on Brazilian composer and pianist, Cassio Vianna’s 2013 record Letters to Grace: A Song Cycle. Sherry performs regularly in the Portland area, sharing the bandstand with Mel Brown, George Colligan, Christopher Woitach, Keller Coker, Dan Balmer, and many more. As a founding member of the American Metropole Orchestra, she arranged for and performed with the likes of Allen Toussaint, Lizz Wright, Martha Reeves, Jose James, Kurt Elling, Dave Frishberg, and Lynn Anderson. At the University of Northern Colorado, she shared the stage with the New York Voices and Aubrey Logan as a member of the Downbeat Award-winning vocal ensemble Vocal Lab, under the direction of Kerry Marsh. In 2018, she was a backup singer for Sara Bareilles at the Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C.

The Galen Clark Organ Trio brings a genre bending approach to the classic organ trio instrumentation, exploring entropic soundscapes, psychedelic funk and groove heavy electronic tinged jazz. The trio features drummer Micah Hummel (Anna Tivel, Quickly Quickly) and guitarist Peter Knudsen (Ghost-note, Mono Neon). Galen Clark is a keyboardist, songwriter, producer, and educator based in Portland, OR. He leads the soul funk collective Outer Orbit and the genre bending group Trio Subtonic and he is 1/3 of the NW collaboration Patterns Fly with D’Vonne Lewis and Andy Coe. He has toured and collaborated with artists such as Anna Tivel, Sarah Clarke, Sleater-Kinney, A Love Electric, Jessica Lurrie, Nicole McCabe, Scott Pemberton and more.

Christopher Brown is an acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, and educator who seeks to be a voice within the advocacy of Jazz and American culture. And through the expansive range of groups that he has assembled and/or performed with, which range from duos to large ensembles across a spectrum of genres, his musical and personal experiences have led him towards an interest in synthesizing the principles of Jazz with the broader concerns of life. So given that music influences culture, and culture influences businesses—which in turn shape the global market economy we all participate in—is why he likes to say “we’re all in the people business. No people, no business.”

We are thrilled to welcome home two of Portland's favored jazz musicians; acclaimed bassist, Ben Wolfe and renowned saxophonist, Nicole Glover. The two will be joined by beloved local jazz legend, Ron Steen for a homecoming show you won't want to miss!

Wolfe has performed and recorded with some of the most celebrated names in jazz and popular music, including Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, and many others. A respected player, composer and Julliard educator, Ben is one of today’s most accomplished jazz bassists. Wolfe brings an extraordinary depth of experience, musicianship, and creativity to the stage.

Joining him is Nicole Glover, whose powerful, adventurous saxophone playing has made her one of the most exciting voices in contemporary jazz. Nicole is a saxophonist, bandleader, composer, and educator based in New York City. In 2026, Nicole was awarded “Up and Coming Musician of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association and #1 Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist & #1 Rising Star Soprano Saxophonist by Downbeat Magazine. Nicole is also a sought-after collaborator. She is currently touring with groups led by Christian McBride and Renee Rosnes, including the multi-award winning ARTEMIS. She has also toured and recorded with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Alongside these two will be Portland's hometown favorite, Ron Steen, whose decades of contribution to the city’s jazz scene have earned him legendary status. Drummer, bandleader, Ron is known as the Godfather of the Jazz Jam scene in Portland, Oregon. Writes the JJA’s Rick Mitchell: “The jam session is at the heart of the jazz tradition. While high school and college jazz programs have proliferated in recent decades, there is no substitute for the knowledge gained by sharing a bandstand with one’s elders and peers in an exposed and competitive setting." Ron has built and nurtured that philosophy in Portland for decades.
