The weather is rainy in Washington, but I finally got to use my newest acquisition and tiniest Plein air box created by ! I loved using it and really like how it can sit flat on the table. 4”x4” gouache study.

has some awesome still lifes and some awesome tea and food to enjoy. I think I won’t mind coming in here to do a series of paintings!

It’s the new year!! And as artists, there’s probably a question burning at the back of your mind: how can I develop my style this year??

From experience, I firmly believe you can’t force a personal style — it’s a natural fingerprint that forms over time through your choices, preferences, and artistic habits. Style doesn’t come from copying other artists; in fact, relying too heavily on imitation can put you in a box ( been there). Instead, your authentic style reveals itself the more you practice, explore, and stay curious.

In this episode, I share several ways you can develop your artistic style organically.

2025 has been a year of firsts and I am so grateful for all that happened. I went into this year with the mantras of “be curious and ask questions” and “don’t overthink” and had those both written on stickies on my computer.

With those in mind, the biggest thing I am proud of is launching my first on-demand course on my site- Essentials of Painting. This is the first time I’ve ran an on demand course completely by myself. I thought I’d be happy with 3 signups and now I have over 100 students in less than a year! Thank you for all the support from everyone- students and friends- who encouraged me to take this step. I will continue to record and make more courses.

I also decided to start my own podcast this year, Scribbles of a Modern Artist on a whim, inspired by one of my favorite podcasts DOAC. This is purely for passion because I enjoy connecting with people this way. Thank you for all of you who reached out telling me how much you enjoy the podcast :) it truly means alot.

This year I also got invited to two amazing Plein air invitationals, Paint Maui and Door County where I won artist’s choice award in Maui and met so many amazing artists at both events. I love doing these events because it’s like Plein air bootcamp with mega inspiration from so many talented artists around you!

Going into 2026, it will be a year of many changes and new beginnings ❤️ What I’m continually learning is to drop more things and focus on a few things that are most important to me. Sometimes it’s hard to say no, but I’ve learned that it is an art in itself to choose the most important priorities, zero in, and focus on what I truly matters the most.
