Fusion is a sweet blend of modern world dances that sometimes include live hand drumming and fire dancing to fit any special occasion. We specialize in Belly Dance: Oriental Cabaret & Tribal, Bollywood, & Spanish dances. Yolanda was born and raised in Portales, NM. From a young age she was captivated with movement and dance. In 1999 she took her first belly dance class. The passion and curiosity grew greater until she became a member of the Nataraja’s. She took her first professional workshop in Santa Fe. Pomegranate Studios hosted Carolena Nericcio. In 2004, she began teaching beginning belly dance classes at Eastern New Mexico University. From 2008-2014, she was the advisor/director of Fusion Funk Collective which was the biggest student organization on campus. The organization included belly dancers, fire dancers, artists, and drummers. Yolanda collaborated with the ladies in Roswell, NM and performed in her first professional production of Leyla Najma’s “Cleopatra”. Yolanda currently teaches yoga and belly dance classes and is the director of Fusion World Dance. Fusion World Dance performs in many local events from the annual Ethnic Fair to the first Clovis Comic Con. Fascinated with the dances of the Rom Trail; she attended the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp with a scholarship in 2008 and 2009. Yoli explores East Indian and Rajasthani Folk Dance, Tribal and Cabaret Belly dance, and Spanish Folk. Her most wonderful memories have been at Amaya’s Oriental Potpourri and performing in Farfesha’s East Meets West. She hosted the late Bollywood Superstar Queen Harish in 2008 and 2009. Her friendship was very dear; Queen Harish was beyond a mentor to her. In 2014, Fusion World Dance hosted Rajasthani Gypsy Caravan with Suva Devi and Katrina Ji at Eastern New Mexico University. Yolanda is currently enrolled in the Rajasthani Folk Dance Program Certification honored by UNESCO ( lead by Katrinaji of L.A.) and enjoys classes offered at Sirena Studio (ABQ). She is truly honored to be on the Board of Directors for the New Mexico Belly Dance Association.
