Choir directors…

As summer begins, here are 3 things I would avoid:

đźš« Obsessing over repertoire

đźš« Waiting until September to think about growth

đźš« Starting next year without a clear mission

The truth is that repertoire isn’t what determines the success of your program.

Your mission does.

Your mission influences your classroom culture, student leadership, music literacy, vocal technique, work-life balance, and ultimately the experience your students have every day.

The songs matter.

But the mission comes first.

If you’re looking to create a mission that gives your program clarity and direction, I’ve opened the Choral Clarity Collective for FREE.

Choir directors…

I don’t believe giving 100% is the goal.

In fact, if you’re doing all the work, leading every moment, solving every problem, and leaving rehearsals exhausted…

There’s a good chance your students aren’t fully invested.

The goal isn’t for us to give 100%.

The goal is for our students to give 100%.

When students take ownership of their learning, everything changes.

The rehearsal becomes better.

The culture becomes stronger.

And teaching becomes a whole lot more enjoyable.

If you’d like help creating that kind of student ownership, I’ve opened the Choral Clarity Collective for FREE.

Choir directors…

There is no formula for great teaching.

The best choir directors don’t all run rehearsals the same way.

They don’t all grade the same way.

They don’t all motivate students the same way.

But they do have something in common.

A clear mission.

They know exactly what they’re trying to build, and they make decisions that align with that mission every day.

That’s where great programs come from.

If you’re looking for support and direction as you build your own program, I’ve opened the Choral Clarity Collective for FREE.

This week, 50 of my 9th, 10th, and 11th graders submitted a resume, cover letter, and full application to become choir officers next year.

What makes me proud isn’t the number.

It’s what the number represents.

Students don’t spend time applying for leadership roles unless they care about the program.

They care because they’ve bought into the mission.

They want future students to have an even better experience than they did.

That’s the kind of culture every choir director hopes to build.

And it doesn’t happen overnight.

It happens when students develop ownership, purpose, and intrinsic motivation.

If you’d like help building that kind of culture, the Choral Clarity Collective is now FREE to join.

Choir directors…

One of our biggest goals as educators should be creating intrinsic motivation in our students.

Yes, external rewards and consequences matter sometimes.

But the real transformation happens when students WANT to succeed.

When they care.
When they buy in.
When they take ownership.

That’s when students begin accomplishing things beyond our imagination.

If you’re looking to build that kind of culture in your choir program, join the Choral Clarity Collective FREE and start building the foundation.

Choir directors…

There is no time of year that doesn’t matter.

The first day of school matters.

The week before a concert matters.

The week after a concert matters.

The last rehearsal matters.

Even summer matters.

When you have a clear mission, every action you take moves your program forward.

Success isn’t built in one performance.

It’s built in the choices you make every day.

Choir directors:

Have you ever caught yourself saying:

“My kids could never do that.”

I’ve learned that most of the time what we really mean is:

“I don’t know how to get my students there yet.”

The programs we admire didn’t appear overnight. They were built through systems, structure, and small steps over time.

You don’t need all the answers right now.

You just need to know the next step.

If you’re looking for support and direction, I’ve opened the Choral Clarity Collective for FREE.
