Tomorrow is the big day, the opening of the Riverhead Medieval Festival! Here's all the info, for your convenience.
Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, from noon-5pm each day (Facebook shows June 10, but it IS both days). Admission is $10 for adults, $5 kids ages 5-12, and ages 4 and under are free. There is no additional parking fee.
The event will take place at the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Campground, 3186 Sound Avenue, Riverhead. The festival entrance is at the west gate. Please note that Sound Avenue is significantly north of the Tanger outlets and main street.
The marketplace will feature festival favorites and talented local artisans; shop for handmade soaps, leather goods, jewelry, fiber arts, handcrafted decor, chainmaille accessories and much more! If you get hungry, be sure to visit Old Thyme BBQ or The Big Cheese, and visit Mr. Frostie for some ice cream (the weather is forecast to be beautiful!)
Enjoy a horse show at approximately 1 & 4pm, plus a Maypole dance and medieval fashion show in the afternoon. Throughout the day you will be able to see arts and crafts demonstrations and martial demos (including armored fighting and fencing). Don't miss performances by Tribal Dance Long Island in the marketplace throughout the afternoon!
For children, there will be games and a chance to fight-a-knight (these activities are $2 each), and kids and adults can try their hands at archery at the archery booth where an experienced kingdom archer will guide you ($2 for 5 arrows).
You are welcome to come in costume, but it is by no means a requirement. Want to get involved? Visit the membership booth and learn more about the host organization, Medieval Scenarios and Recreations.
We hope this has answered your questions. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments.
On behalf of our vendors, performers and volunteers, thank you for your interest in our event. We can't wait to share this exciting weekend with you!
