With the generous support of our community, Centrum Foundation raised $726,000 (before expenses) at the Centrum Gala to support our programs and scholarships fund. We thank Bonnie Raitt for her generous personal support in the form of a personalized guitar--a moving and motivational spark for the night. Lloyd Buchanan and Chris Wallace return to lead Centrum's Gospel Choir this summer at Port Townsend Traditional Blues. Both gentlemen are musical directors of their respective Baptist churches in Georgia, USA.
Currently, Lloyd is touring the world with Brittany Howard. Over the past decade, he’s also toured with the Alabama Shakes, Oleta Adams, The Heavy, A7, and more.

Wednesday June 10th

Join us at 4pm in Building 305 at Fort Worden to view work by Centrum visual artist in residence Alessandro Teoldi. He will be doing a walkthrough of the works on view and discuss his creative process. Fifteen years ago, Teoldi left his hometown of Milan, Italy for Vancouver, BC. That move trigged many questions about the overlaps of culture, inheritance, family and what it means to feel detached from one’s roots, navigating a foreign language in a foreign land. These questions have transformed into his work through an in-depth reflection on the process of collage. By cutting and pasting airplane blankets, linen, and paper, he reassigns meaning to these materials by re-contextualizing them within a new perspective.

Centrum's Jazz Port Townsend welcomes Michael Mayo this summer. The Los Angeles-based phenomenon creates from the heart without filter or pretense, allowing his voice to transmit raw emotion above an ever-evolving backdrop of jazz, neo-soul, and R&B.

Big news for Centrum and Fort Worden State Park.

We’re excited to share that Centrum has signed a new long-term lease with Washington State Parks, securing our home at Fort Worden for decades to come. This agreement affirms Centrum’s role as a cultural anchor on public land and allows us to steward 14 historic buildings, including McCurdy Pavilion and the Wheeler Theatre, while continuing to invest in arts education, performance, and preservation.

Alongside this milestone, we’re also entering a thoughtful leadership transition. After 14 years as Executive Director, Rob Birman will move into a new role focused on long-term capital fundraising and campus projects, while Centrum launches a national search for our next Executive Director. Rob will remain in his current role during the transition, ensuring continuity and care for our community.

This moment reflects both stability and possibility—and our deep belief that Fort Worden will continue to be a place where art, learning, and culture thrive for generations.
