The wonderful Rhody Run returns to Fort Worden this Sunday, May 17! The 5k begins at 9am and the 12k begins at 12:15pm, so please plan for extra time to get to/from Madrona that morning.

The park will alternate traffic in and out of the East Gate for part of the time, and roads may be temporarily one-way.

If possible carpool with a fellow Madrona-lover, or bike or walk, or just plan a little extra time so you don’t miss a moment of your favorite class!

Happy Rhody! 🌺

📢 New Spin & Core Combo class starts Friday, May 1 🚴‍♀️

Sara McIntyre is well-known to Spin students as she’s been a Guest Instructor at Madrona for many years.

Now she’s starting her own unique class at 5:30pm on Fridays: 40 minutes of low-impact Spin for cardio and endurance, plus 20 minutes of focused core exercises. This is ideal for both veteran and newcomers to Spin. Register to join Sara to improve cardiovascular health AND strengthen your core in the same "Health Happy Hour”!

Certified in Les Mills RPM & BodyPump, Sara has been leading group fitness classes since 2018. A lifelong resident of Port Townsend and full-time employee of Jefferson County for 30+ years.

“Group fitness is so fulfilling to me. Leading class, being inspired by participants, encouraging one another to do our best & meet our goals. All that and we have fun doing it! When you participate in one of my classes, you are almost guaranteed to smile once or twice.”

In her ‘spare’ time she enjoys being outdoors, hiking, gardening, biking, spending time with her family and decorating cakes for folks young and old in the community.

Have you tried Restorative Yoga with Vanessa?

Happening on Wednesdays at 3:30-4:45pm, this class is a lovely mid-week, 75-minute relax-and-renew break with Vanessa Wade.

Restorative Yoga is a slower, therapeutic style of Yoga that encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.

In this style of Yoga, poses focus on deeper breaths and longer holds that are supported by various yoga props (blocks, blankets, bolsters and sometimes straps) to give the yogi time to fully inhabit the pose to feel its energetic and physical impact (core stabilization ans deep-tissue release).

Accessible for all levels, Restorative Yoga offers a nourishing and grounding practice that cultivates conscious relaxation, inviting the parasympathetic nervous system to calm and release deep-seated tension – on mental, physical and emotional levels.

Vanessa Wade holds a Restorative Yoga Teacher Training certification led by Shauna MacKay, E-RYT, an advanced Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga Trainer (heavily based on Judith Hanson Lasater's teachings) in which the latest research in neuroscience is incorporated. Vanessa also passionately believes in the necessity and prioritization of rest and recovery in order to lead fulfilling lives. She is grateful for this opportunity to facilitate this space for students to step out of the rigors of daily life and to consciously relax mind and body. 🙏🏼

They can produce over 1,000 pounds of force in a single squat for elite weightlifters! They’re also a metabolism boosters.

Come learn how to keep your legs strong and healthy to last a lifetime at this part class/part workshop! All are welcome, no special abilities needed. Register at www.MadronaMindBody.com

🍀 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! No, Madrona doesn’t offer Irish Dancing ... but our next YogaLab, "Find Your Feet,” on Friday, March 27 at 1:30-3:30pm will be a fun exploration of the feet and ankles. Our feet — 25% of the entire bones in our body — are as unique as our fingerprints. We build our poses from the ground up, so come learn how happy feet are the foundation for a longer, safer living.

OFFERING: YogaLab with Renée Klein, each 4th Friday, 1:30-3:30pm. In-person only.

Ever wonder WHY we do certain poses and WHAT benefit each brings? Go beyond simply “doing” yoga into understanding how your bones, muscles and joints create those poses, and how to make them more effective and beneficial. YogaLab offers a fun exploration of the anatomy of movement, and each month Certified International Yoga Therapist Renée Klein will guide you through a different topic AND a customized yoga class to put it all into practice.

Be sure to register at www.madronamindbody.com, as space is limited.
