John Paul Bishop began his ballet training at age 8 and launched his professional career at just 16 with the Milwaukee Ballet Company. He has since performed with over twenty professional companies worldwide, from New York to Japan, and has worked with legendary figures including George Balanchine, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and André Eglevsky.
As a principal dancer, John performed leading roles in iconic classical ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Balanchine masterworks including Serenade, Theme and Variations, and Allegro Brillante.
Following his performing career, Mr. Bishop became an acclaimed choreographer, creating over 50 original ballets. His work earned the Award for Best Choreography at the St. Petersburg International Ballet Competition, and he has coached numerous dancers to top placements at YAGP, including multiple first-place finishes. His students have gone on to professional careers across the globe, and his coaching has even extended to elite figure skaters, including 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist Shizuka Arakawa.
