I’m tucking this word in my heart this morning from Isaiah 50:4 - 'The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. '

And this is my prayer: Lord, let me be a disciple who is awake to Your word. Let me be a student who listens to You. Let me participate in Your grace to humankind. Let me speak words that sustain the weary. Amen.

What is an art-prayer? It often starts with God's Word. Some aspect of His word captivates me. Then I lay down some early layers of paint. A prayer forms in my heart. Then I go about finding a way to represent that prayer as an image. When the painting is complete I have a visual invitation into an on-going conversation with the Lord.

While walking my youngest kiddo to the bus stop this morning, it is my habit to pray for him out loud so he can hear it. I was giving thanks for the morning dew and immediately a verse I read in Hosea this week came to mind:

"I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like the lily and take root like the cedars of Lebanon." - Hosea 14:5

It's a beautiful picture of a beautiful promise. Giving thanks for God's faithfulness and enduring love.

Creating art is a pathway into prayer. It gives the mind space to wonder and wrestle with God. When the painting is complete, the conversation continues as you reflect on it. Art can be a visual invitation into a vibrant prayer life.

A couple times of the year I slip away from social media. This summer is full of many good things and I find myself unable to keep up with the demands of social media. So I'm releasing it for a bit to show up more fully in the other areas of my life. I'll see you again when the kids are back in school. ❤️ I can still be reached by DM, email or through my website.
