It takes a dedicated crew to shoot great documentaries.

Eternally grateful for this team

We are over halfway through color correction at this time - 127/198 clips completed. Next comes mastering the final sound mix, and then finally.... submitting to festivals! ๐ŸŽฌ๐ŸŸ

Where would you like to see Kings of Gorst Creek?

02/07/2023

A behind the scenes peak at color correction!

Update: With a wild push to complete the documentary in June the director needed to take time to regroup... whew.

Recently, we have been taking some major steps - re-cutting the story based on feedback, investing time on cinematic color correction, and finetuning the sound mix.

Once these steps are completed we will be submitting to festivals this season!

So be ready for lots of watch party alerts!

A little over a week ago, the King Crew filmed this fun outing with the Kitsap Poggie Club and some local area teachers to release small batches of Chinook salmon into Gorst Creek. Have a watch:

In a sea of green hats, shirts, and jackets, the crew attended the Kitsap Poggie Clubโ€™s February meeting last night. Difficult decisions are being made as a result of the 2+ years the pandemic has had on the club.
Events have been canceled. Participation is down. Leadership is changing. But through it all the board is determined to keep on swimming.

Thereโ€™s something special about a shoot day.

Today we had a conversation with Dr. Casey Schmidt of the Suquamish Tribe fishery department. As the fish program manager Casey covers the finned side of the office.

We had a poignant and overarching discussion about the responsibility for hatchery managers to protect wild stocks while offering harvest opportunities for tribal and non tribal anglers.

We squeezed in our time together at the beginnings of the annual North of Falcon salmon meetings with the comanagers - tribal, state, federal, and international officials. The negotiations will continue for the next several months as the returning salmon forecasts continue to stream in.

Dr. Schmidt, as a negotiator for the Sinclair inlet fishery, will secure harvest opportunities this year as a result of the tribes ongoing investment in the hatchery on Gorst Creek, protecting important tribal treaty rights secured under the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855.

Canโ€™t wait to share elements of this conversation with you all in our final story

Last week was super busy for the Kings of Gorst Creek Crew! With 5 filming days, it was our busiest week yet! We captured everything from fertilization to harvest to salmon tours and even feeding salmon smolt. Almost all stages of the salmon life cycle was captured!
Today we wanted to highlight screengrabs from the fertilization process. Here a salmon technician at Grovers Creek Salmon Hatchery fertilizes well over 500,000 salmon eggs with the milt from a variety of adult males. In about 45 days salmon eggs will hatch and the baby salmon will swim around with their egg yolk sacs starting the Alevin stage. How many eggs can you count?
