Old Town Blooms

Old Town Blooms We are Blooming! I hope we can inspire more Bloomers to find a small spot, a corner, a neglected place in need of blooms and smiles!!!

Old Town Blooms began with Port Jefferson Station residents Craig den Hartog from Emerald Magic Lawn Care and his neighbors, Bob & Karen Laidlaw and Jon Juarez. It started as a neighborly corner litter clean up. Then a few years back they came up with the idea to plant Daffodils along Old Town Road… so they did! The project started with a few hundred bulbs and has been expanding ever since. In the

past seven years, Old Town Blooms has planted over 20,000 daffodil bulbs along the road that connects so many different neighborhoods, school districts and towns. By getting the community involved and adding color and beauty to the road that connects so many of us, we feel we can rejuvenate the sense of community and remind one another that we are a team and we all care about the same thing. As a community we will stand together to beautify our neighborhoods and take pride in the work that we do. This is a project that will take some time but by planting, donating and/or volunteering we can bring our neighbors together and feel that sense of community accomplishment! A moving Memorial Day ceremony at Steven Crowley Memorial Park with the American Legion, Jonathan Kornreich, veterans, community members, and the Crowley family. Despite the rain, the honor guard wreath-laying and the playing of Taps made for a meaningful tribute.
