"I want to grow up and be a builder" is not something you normally hear from young girls.
The world of construction has been a men's world since the beginning of time. But each year, more and more women are breaking the glass, and building the foundation for women to find their careers in the building industry.
Today, we tip our hard hats to the women in our local CDBIA family who have shattered the glass and continue to build women and our industry.
Suzanne Graham, Massey Services, Inc. . Suzanne joined the CDBIA family in 1993. Suzanne and her husband Jim owned a pest control company and Suzanne joined the CDBIA to build relationships with builders to help her company. After serving in many leadership capacities including Associate Vice President, Suzanne set her eyes on becoming the FIRST female president of the CDBIA, a position that according to the CDBIA bylaws must be held by a builder company. She started gaining her experience and building homes and commercial projects, learning codes and all the how-tos and in 2005 Suzanne earned her Florida Certified Building Contractor license, and the SHATTERED the glass for women in Charlotte County! In 2013, Suzanne became the 2nd female president of the Florida Home Builders Association and has continued to be the swiss army knife of the building industry.
In 2001, Beth Cantin-Brown, Cantin Homes started attending meetings with her father Don. She was invited (or told depending on who you speak to) to attend a meeting for the Future Builders of America and Beth found her passion in helping grow the construction industry from our students. Beth joined the CDBIA board and became president in 2013. Her focused was on building our future leaders and working with our schools to share the exciting world of construction with kids. Beth has been the contractor on record for the CDBIA P.A.L.M. homes. This has been a huge project where contractors work with FBA Students at the Charlotte Technical College in the construc
