Sole Expressions Studio

Sole Expressions Studio We firmly believe that Dance is less about Perfection and more about Expression. "To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful.

Whether you are a new dancer, experienced dancer, or are a dance parent; we hope that you will find Sole Expressions to be a welcoming and supportive environment. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking." ~Agnes De Mille

"There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them."
~Vicki Baum

3 weeks until our Summer Workshops begin. There's still spots open to get your kiddo (or even yourself) out of the house a couple evenings in July.

Please always send water or a sports drink with your child to class! Hydration is extremely important when dancing. It can even help stave off the hangry tudes.

What are the different styles of dance?
Modern is considered the theatrical dance, it's similar to ballet but focuses on the lyrics
Jazz dance widely means any dance set to jazz music. Narrowly it's a stage dance similar to tap derived from ballet, modern and African rhythms.
Ballet is a highly technical dance form with it's own vocabulary
Tap is an American dance form that developed alongside jazz music. It uses shoes with metal plates to create percussive sounds.
Enrollment for summer workshops, winter season and spring season are currently open. https://app.gostudiopro.com/online/soleexpressionsstudio
What's your favorite style of dance? Which style(s) did I leave out?

Please always send water or a sports drink with your child to class! Hydration is extremely important when dancing. It can even help stave off the hangry tudes.

New name, new look? Between summer workshops and regular fall season we're thinking of freshening up. Pictured are the colors we're thinking of. Why? Well Ms. Kathryn really likes color psychology. (https://www.colorpsychology.org) Which colors would you choose? Colors shown or completely different?

Yellow-helps to boost mood, increase alertness, and promote creative thinking, confidence, optimism, and abundance, warm, comfortable, and secure, creating a sense of happiness and hope

Orange-energy and warmth of red with the happiness and optimism of yellow, making it a color that can stimulate enthusiasm and creativity, creates a sense of fun and enthusiasm

Purple-friendliness, open-mindedness, youth, creativity, passion and extroversion. Reduces antisocial behavior and aggression by encouraging emotional expression.

Green-emotional harmony, stability, and endurance, tranquility, health, and good luck, freshness and creativity, provokes a sense of comfort and relaxation, being the dominant color in nature it symbolizes life, can help to reduce stress and anxiety

Can't wait to hear your opinions!

Let's talk competition.
Port Allegany has not done competition before BUT when I took over I said, we'll try what dancers want. So families have asked, and I listened!
Ms. Monica will be heading up a competition team this year for the first time. This process is very learn as we go. There are added costs that I am looking in to fundraising options to offset. Registration alone is approximately $200/competition. Joining the competition team is a big commitment so the class is listed only in the Spring Season but begins at the same time as our Winter Season. Competitions are over the weekends, there's one in April and one in May that we are looking to attend. Let's make our first year as a team a grand success!
Pictured here is Aspen Sharkey who competed as a SOLOIST her very first year competing!

Some of us are already being driven insane by their children. Some of us still have grips on sanity. No matter what end of the spectrum you're on, give yourself a break and sign those kids up for dance! Classes start the week after the 4th of July. Each class has 4 classes, most being once a week in July.

One of the best attended summer workshops we've had is the Royalty Camp which has been run by Ms. Kathryn for 3 years now. This summer Ms. Kathryn is back with Royal Ballet and K-Pop Demon Hunters Ribbon Dancing.
Here are some words from her...err me....

Hi, I’m Kathryn Sanchez. I owe everything in my life to God who has given me a beautiful family, including a hardworking and extremely supportive husband who pushes me to be the best I can be.
I have always loved dance but wasn’t fortunate to be able to take classes as a child. Being a Mom of 2 girls I wanted to give them the chance to explore every outlet including dance. Lucky for me, they have loved dance from the beginning. My commitment to the studio started with a gap that needed to be filled for the youngest dancers. I poured my energy into learning all I could from online webinars and trainings so my lack of dance experience did not flow through to the students. Slowly, I’ve added classes and now I’ve filled a new gap being the studio’s owner. I have a bachelors degree in business so my skills helped me fill the gap nicely. I still love dance and you’ll see me taking as many adult classes as I can handle because my children come by their stage confidence honestly.
My hobby list is vast, from home improvement projects with my Father-in-law, to macrame I learned from my Mom, to crochet I learned from my Mother-in-law, to photography projects with my sister. Being creative and using my hands to be productive is a necessary outlet for me.
A lot of my drive and desire to keep busy came from my Dad. He was a big supporter of my family's dance adventures. I know he’d be super proud of me following in his footsteps to become a small business owner. My family instilled a love of music in me from the beginning and dance is just an extension of that.

Bringing one of our most popular workshops to us this summer is Monica Kintner. She'll be teaching Toy Story Acro, Star Wars Jazz/Hip hop and the anticipated Line Dancing!

Here's a little about Monica in her own words.

Hi! My name is Monica Kintner, and I am so excited to be part of the dance family! I have been dancing since I was 7 years old and trained at Heidi Noel’s Performing Arts Center, where I studied many styles including tap, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, hula, hip hop, and broken contemporary. I also competed in dance competitions, earning all-around first place, and was blessed to perform at Disney and Cedar Point.
Outside of the studio, I am in my fifth and final year at Western Governors University, working toward my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I have been teaching at Walsh, now Southern Tier Catholic School, for four years, where I teach Kindergarten, First Grade, middle school Spanish, and art and music for Montessori through 8th grade. I still dance regularly and love staying active through line dancing, which keeps my passion for movement alive.
Most importantly, my life is rooted in my faith. I am a born-again believer and strive to live each day through prayer and Bible study. I believe dance is a beautiful way to build confidence, joy, and community, and I can’t wait to dance, grow, and have fun together!

One of our summer instructors is Krystal Meade! I've danced with Krystal and parented alongside her. This summer Krystal is bringing us Super Mario Tap and Circus Baton!
Here's some words from her:

Hello, my name is Krystal Meade. I have been married to my husband, John, for 20 years, and together we have two wonderful daughters, Kendra (18) and Jolene (12). Dance and music have always been a big part of our family life. My husband and I especially enjoy ballroom dancing, with swing dancing being our favorite style. I have also spent eight years taking adult tap classes, shout-out to !

I enjoy dance because dancing is more than learning steps; it’s a way to celebrate life, create memories, and share joy with those around us. It allows us to express ourselves, stay active, and continue growing at every stage of life. I’m excited to help students grow in confidence, creativity, and joy through dance while encouraging them to express themselves and have fun along the way.
