FYI fellow business owners or managers.
Here the question that I asked Google, but I already knew the answer.
if i have a farmers market do i need to get a performance fee to hire bands on a weekly bases

AI Overview from Google

Yes, legally you may need music licensing performance fees if the bands play copyrighted music. Performance Rights Organizations (PROs) like ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC hold the venue or market organizer responsible for public performance licenses, even for outdoor community events.

Why Licensing Matters
Legal Responsibility: As the market organizer hosting the bands, copyright law views your market as the "venue" responsible for public performance clearance.

Copyrighted Catalogs: If bands play commercial or radio-famous covers and original songs registered with PROs, a blanket license is technically required.

Enforcement: PRO representatives actively monitor public spaces, community events, and outdoor markets to request annual or per-event licensing fees

If you are not paying, the fees for the the singer songwriter you are stealing from us and ripping us off.

Her is the deal, if we have to pay the fees as a legit business then you should have to pay also.

Dogwood Music will acquire all licensing to hold there music events of both the Mississippi Family Farmers Benefit Concert and The Dogwood Folk Music Festival That way if an original artists chooses to play a cover song then they will be legally able to play that song at our events.

We would like to remind all talent buyers that A Performance Rights Organization (PRO) collects performance royalties for songwriters and music publishers. When a copyrighted song is played publicly on the radio, on TV, via streaming, or in venues like restaurants and bars, the PRO collects licensing fees from the business and distributes the royalties to the creators.... if you don't pay you can be suded, that goes for all public events. Here at Dogwood Music when we host a performance that has cover bands playing we will always pay the fees, and so should you for your events.

Supporting Our Local Farmers: The Dogwood Emergency Fund Project

This past planting season, it became deeply clear that several farmers right here in the Pontotoc area faced devastating tractor and equipment failures. Without the extra funds needed for immediate repairs, many were left unable to prepare their crops for market time, unfortunately resulting in the loss of nearly an entire season's livelihood.

To address this urgent need, Dogwood Music Productions and Dogwood Farm of Pontotoc are teaming up to establish an annual benefit concert series. Our goal is to raise a dedicated emergency fund for local farmers, ensuring they have the financial safety net to rent replacement equipment or hire assistance when a breakdown threatens their season.

While we are still finalizing the official qualification and validation guidelines for the fund, our immediate priority is bringing the community together to secure these resources. As a local concert promoter who sees this need firsthand, I am looking for partners, sponsors, and volunteers. If you have experience in this type of venture or simply want to help, please reach out to get involved.
