Heat index is 100°F at 6:45 pm and 94°F ambient temp. Sun is going down, shadows getting long on the West tree line, with extended shade, but even in the shade, the breeze feels like an air fryer. The soil is dry and hard...and I am trying to get some sunflowers planted for our fall operation...getting the seed deep enough in this no-till heavy clay ground, makes planting a slow process trying to give the planting V coulters time to slice into the soil. No matter how many years I do this late planting, the concern about getting flowers by mid October is always a factor. It takes work to get Wise Family Farm ready for the Fall.
