The Tanglefoot Trail located in the Mississippi Hills National Heritage area preserves the abandoned railroad corridor assembled for the Ripley Railroad by Col. With its storied past, the 44.5 mile asphalt trail offers multi-use recreational opportunities as it winds through six communities, forests, fields, pastures, and wetlands in Union, Pontotoc and Chickasaw counties in northeast Mississippi.

Bikers, walkers, joggers, runners and nature enthusiasts enjoy the beauty of the trees, the meadows, the creeks, the flora and the fauna with an occasional stop to learn a bit of history.

CAUTION: August 18, 2026
Due to the strong storms last night, there were some downed trees and debris along the Trail. We are working on clearing debris. Please be safe and thank you for your patience.

UPDATE 8/11/26:
The contractor will be re-decking another bridge in the same area as the last. The trail will remain closed south of the Ingomar Whistle Stop from County Road 96 to Johnson Bend Road from approximate Mile Markers 35.05 to 36.12. There is no alternate route. Updates will continue to be posted. Thank you.

TRAIL IMPROVEMENT UPDATES 7/8/2026:
1. NO BRIDGE CLOSURES THIS WEEK. The contractor is working under bridges which will not impact trail use. Re-decking will resume the week of 7/13/26. We'll provide updates when received.
2. Winter Storm Fern Debris mulching & spreading will continue in Pontotoc & Union counties.
3. Trail paint striping is still in progress.
