🎨 Our upcoming exhibition, “Anthony James”, is going to be opened very soon!

Join us for the art reception opening in collaboration with MMFA / AJ Studio

🗓️ Date: Saturday, September 16

⏰ Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The exhibition features a diverse range of series, each a testament to James' masterful exploration of art, science, and spirituality.

Anthony James' Morphic Fields unveils a mesmerizing collection of bronze and limestone pieces inspired by scientist Rupert Sheldrake's theory of morphic resonance. James breathes life into found materials, converting waste into bronze, as he delves into the interconnectedness of self-organizing systems and collective human experience. The sculptures bear witness to the profound creative process, transcending individuality to touch the realms of collective memory.

Stepping into the realm of Portals and Platonic Solids, audiences encounter an exquisite fusion of stainless steel, glass, and LED lights. Internationally acclaimed, these sculptures embody James' quest to reveal and share truth, expressing science, spirituality, and philosophy in pure, unfiltered form. Through an ingenious use of materials and light, he materializes the ethereal concepts of infinity and cosmos into tangible, objective existence.

Presented by Melissa Morgan Fine Art (MMFA) and the Kellogg University Art Gallery, this collaboration promises an extraordinary showcase of talent and creativity. MMFA has been a champion of contemporary artists for over 23 years, representing over 30 international artists working across various mediums.

🌟 Don't miss this transformative exhibition that transcends boundaries and ignites the cosmic encounter of art and ideas. Join us in celebrating the artistic journey of Anthony James!!

Dear Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, staff and local community:

The university is actively monitoring Hurricane Hilary and its impact on our region. This weekend, the National Weather Service issued a tropical storm 💦warning for all of Los Angeles County through Monday.

The safety of our entire campus community remains our highest priority, and we are committed to providing updates about how we are responding.

Out of an abundance of caution for weather-related impacts, including poor road conditions, in-person activities and events on campus on Sunday, August 20 and Monday, August 21 will be rescheduled or canceled. The university and campus will remain open. Critical campus operations will continue in-person, including campus safety, facilities management, campus dining and student support services. We ask that students, faculty and staff postpone their in-person meetings and activities. Please continue reading for details on telecommuting, move-in day and Fall Conference.

We anticipate resuming all operations, events and activities on Tuesday, August 22.

DUE TO THE STORM, OUR Monday 8/21 @12-4pm SOFT OPENING of “Family Matters: The Photography of Jane Szabo” @ THE DON B. HUNTLEY GALLERY (Univ Library 4th Floor) is POSTPONED to Tuesday 8/22 @12-4pm. The KELLOGG GALLERY (Building 35A of Bronco Student Center) will also be CLOSED on 8/21.

🎨 Exciting Announcement!
We are delighted to share that Bryan Ida's highly anticipated career retrospective, "A Life of Change," will be showcased at the prestigious Bakersfield Museum of Art, running from September 28th, 2023, to January 6th, 2024. 📆

Witness his artistic evolution as he delved into various series, constantly seeking tactile knowledge and profound means of communication through his artwork. 🎼🎨

Bryan's artistic journey took a significant turn when he became a studio assistant to the legendary Sam Francis in the 80s. Under Sam's mentorship, Bryan discovered his innate talent for visual expression, leading him to embark on a lifelong dedication to painting. 🖌️Experience the fascinating shift in Bryan's artistic style, as he gradually distanced himself from his early influences and ventured into uncharted territories, developing a distinct and unique voice in the art world. 🎨✨Check this link and see more info of the artist & artworks! https://bryanida.com/

Moreover, at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, you can also explore "The Circle of Sam Francis: Experimenting in California," an extraordinary exhibition that showcases Sam Francis's work during a dynamic era of artistic exploration. 📸 Our LA Art Excursion Update! 🎨

We're thrilled to announce that our visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) was a huge success! We're grateful to LACMA for their generous proposed donation of sculpture stands to our galleries. These stands will undoubtedly enhance our Ink & Clay Collection in our University Library exhibit coming later this year 🤩🙌

While at LACMA, we immersed ourselves in the world of art, gaining inspiration and refreshing our creative spirits during the summer break. LACMA's vast array of art pieces spans across different countries, cultures, and artistic movements! One of the shows that deeply resonated with us was "Afro-Atlantic Histories." This remarkable exhibition delves into the profound impact of the transatlantic slave trade and its enduring influence on the African diaspora. Through a captivating dialogue spanning centuries and continents, the artworks on display shed light on the histories, stories of enslavement, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for liberation. Swipe to see our favorite art piece from this show, the mirrored map of "North America + Africa"!!

Our journey continued as we explored the vibrant art scene in Hollywood. The Hauser & Wirth gallery offered us an extraordinary glimpse into contemporary art, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. The most interesting exhibition at this gallery was, Womxn in Windows: 'American Gurl' that shows the American Dream through the eyes of women. Co-curated by Zehra Zehra and Kilo Kish, 'American Gurl' presents a curated project of video art, film, and performance! We explored the nuances of the Black feminine experience and re-imagine beauty, success, freedom, and power in America. This exhibition is a celebration of diverse perspectives!

Lastly, the Aline Barnsdall Hollyhock House, designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, left us in awe of its architectural marvel. We soaked in the history and grandeur of this iconic landmark.

🕯️Don't miss the chance to experience the captivating world of art in LA!

📣 Calling all art enthusiasts!

Our alumni, Jennifer Gunlock, is currently doing an online ARTSY exhibition presented by MARK MOORE FINE ART during this period: April 5 - June 25, 2023.

Jennifer graduated from CPP art department back in 1998 and has since then made waves in the art world. Her work explores the relationships between nature and human activity, using layering techniques to construct tree-based forms fused with architectural motifs. Each composition reflects the passage of time as buildings and trees push against each other, commenting on humanity’s impact on the environment and the earth’s shape-shifting history. 🌳🏢

You might even remember her stunning exhibition, 'St. Broxville Wood: Into the Thicket', which was showcased at Kellogg Gallery in 2020. 🌿

🙌 Excited to share photos of David B. Jang's stunning art pieces from his exhibition, "Impossible and Immeasurable" at CalArts Gallery from last month! 📸

He is a previously exhibited CPP artist, having showcased his work at the Huntley Gallery in 2015 in a show called "Prequel to 2018". He later exhibited at the Kellogg Gallery in 2018 with a show titled "Systems of Production".

Join us in congratulating David B. Jang on his pursuit of an MFA at CalArts! Congrats David! 👏🎉

David B. Jang’s artworks explore the relationship between the self and the world, showcasing the endless movement of our daily lives. Jang's use of sound, light, and abstract symbolic mapping creates a sense of the infinite within the finite. His work encourages us to simplify the world as a place to act, rather than a place to perceive objects.

Don't worry if you missed the exhibition in person! You can still appreciate his works virtually by checking out the YouTube video!
