The last paint and pass was a ton of fun! We hope this format becomes a staple in our monthly line up🍄

Toadally Sketchy: Graphite Study, September 9th, 1-3pm.
Come sketch a toad! 🐸(Toadally... Sketchy... get it???😉😀) Working with a full range of graphite pencils in a 5x7 format, we will dig into a nice little nature study. This is a relaxed, straightforward drawing class designed for practice in pencil

ART TERM TUESDAY! *BEW BEW BEW BEEEEWWW* (that was an airhorn sound if you were wondering)

Today's term is: Color Theory
Although i guess its more of a concept than a term.

Color theory is both an art and a science. There is a little more to it than simply deciding what "looks good" together, but it's also not rocket science. 🙃 At its core, it's the study of how colors relate to one another and how our eyes and brains perceive them.

Artists use color intentionally to shape the mood and emotional impact of a piece. 🔺🔶🌼Warm colors like reds, oranges, and yellows often feel energetic, passionate, or inviting, while cool colors 🈯💎♏ can create a sense of calm, distance, or melancholy. By carefully choosing color palettes, artists can guide your emotions before you even realize it.

At the same time, our visual system responds to color in fascinating ways. Complementary colors can make each other appear more vibrant, similar colors create harmony, and subtle shifts in hue or value can even create the illusion of movement, depth, or glowing light. Much of what we "see" isn't just the paint itself—it's how our brain interprets colors in relation to the ones around them.

Color theory can go a little deeper than just warm and cool colors- there are even "cool" warm colors and "warm" cool colors! it gets pretty interesting!

The next time you look at a painting, pay attention to the colors. They aren't just decorating the image—they're helping tell the story.

We have Paint & Pass: Fungi Edition coming up soon!! This is more of a social event with a creative twist-- come paint according to a collection of short 5 minute prompts and pass your canvas around the room! everybody will paint on everybody's canvas, and there is time at the end to make it your own. It's kind of like speed dating, but instead of strangers, you date the paintings 😘 This month's paint and pass theme is.... Fungi!
