It's time for.... Art Term Tuesday!!!

Today's term is..."Rendering"

In the context of art, to "render" something means to make it look real, three-dimensional, or visually complete on the page.

'Drawing' the apple gives you its shape, but 'rendering' the apple makes you believe it's really an apple- you can see the light bounce off the skin, the shadows it casts, and the subtle changes in color or value.

Ultimately, rendering is about how an artist brings form, depth, light, and substance to a subject. It is the difference between simply showing us what something looks like and making us believe in its presence.

Care to share your own examples of rendering? Post in the comments!

This event utilizes carbon paper to trace our own Baba Yaga themed images which we will cross hatch into a masterpiece.

What is Baba Yaga you ask? Let me tell you a little more....
🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹

BEWARE THE WITCH OF THE DEEP FOREST… BABA YAGA.

Deep within the dark forests of Slavic folklore, where the trees whisper secrets and the path behind you mysteriously disappears, there lives a witch unlike any other.

Her name is Baba Yaga.
*thunder boom*

She flies through the night in a giant mortar, steering with a pestle, while a broom sweeps away her tracks. Her home? A crooked hut standing on enormous chicken legs, guarding the boundary between the world of the living and the realm of the unknown.

Some say she devours those foolish enough to seek her out. Others say she possesses ancient wisdom and tests those brave enough to stand before her.

For Baba Yaga is neither wholly evil nor wholly good. She is a force of nature—terrifying, unpredictable, and impossible to tame.

Enter her forest, and you may find death…

Or the wisdom to transform your destiny.

Happy October everybody! 🎃🎃🎃
Just wanted to call attention again to our October event line up!

We have a festive selection this month- featuring some Slavic folk lore and some good old fashioned DIY costume design!

Curious Carapace: Scarab Beetle Graphite Study - Practice your graphite skills! learn how to draw and render the shiny shell of a scarab beetle. Beautiful and thought to represent transformation, protection, and resurrection... powerful and maybe a little bit witchy feeling?

Hatch & Hex: Baba Yaga - Come for this relaxed bring-your-own-beer Paint and Sip. Baba Yaga is a mysterious witch-like figure from Slavic folklore, often depicted as an old woman who lives deep in the forest in a magical hut standing on chicken legs. Both frightening and fascinating, she can be dangerous, helpful, or something in between—often testing those who encounter her. Choose from a selection of prepared images to trace, and cross hatch them in to create value, texture and viiibes. 👻

Mischief & Mâché: Paper Mâché Masks - Make your own paper mache masks! just in time to use for your halloween costume🖤
