🐐 Star, our favorite girl, is rejecting her babies 😑

She will not let them nurse off of her. We started noticing her udder being very full but her kicking aesy the babies. Some kicks to the kids may be normal when she is empty so right away I was not overly concerned. Once she was doing it persistently with a full udder is when we had to intervene. This was ober a 1 day period. You need to take care of this right away so the kids don't go hungry, it is not something to sleep on.

We decided to try the stand and see if she would let them nurse when she ate and she does! It is a small win but now we have to take her out to the stand and let them nurse at least 3 times a day.

We are hoping she starts nursing in the pen, we are diligently checking to see if she is, but so far she is not.

When mama goat refuses to stand still for her kids to nurse, try this simple trick 🐐🍼
Sometimes new mothers or fresh does just don't want to hold still, especially if they are feeling a little overwhelmed or tender. Instead of chasing her around the pasture while hungry kids try to catch up, bring her right over to the milking stand!
Lock her in with a small scoop of grain or feed to keep her occupied and happy. While she is relaxed and eating, bring the babies up to nurse.
This simple routine gives mama a positive reward, keeps her standing calmly in place, and ensures the kids get a full belly of warm milk without any stress. 🌾✨
