As a performance artist, Gafori presents Rumi’s poetry in cross-media events that weave translations, original text, and musical compositions sung in Persian and English, revealing the often unheard and astonishing rhythm and wordplay of Rumi’s original text. In this concert, critically-acclaimed cellist Jennifer Kloetzel and pianist Allegra Chapman continue their exploration of overlooked works for cello and piano by women composers. Meet three composers from the Classical and late-Romantic eras whose music transcends all boundaries: the astounding child prodigy Hélène Liebmann, renowned French musician and teacher Nadia Boulanger, and Russian romanticist Leokadiya Kashperova. Their ideas and compositions changed music forever, though tragically most people know their work only through their more famous students who included Igor Stravinsky and Aaron Copland.
