A comedy, thriller, adventure musical set in 1989, SCOUTS features a book and concept by newcomer Caitlyn Joyce and music and lyrics by Talen Piner. The production will be led by director Attilio Rigotti (NYTW 2050 Artistic Fellow) with stage manager Alicia Cabrera Tactuk (Aura NYTW Artistic Fellow) at the helm. SCOUTS tells an original story of the Brother and Sister Scouts, rival troops in Point
Pleasant, West Virginia, competing for Troop of the Year at the annual Summer Jamboree, when one of their Scoutmasters goes missing in the deep woods, searching for the mysterious and deadly Mothman. Alex, a rebellious Sister Scout played by Lyda Jade Harlan (Sunday in the Park With George), vows to venture into the unknown. Travis, a loyal Brother Scout played by Dan Rice (State Fair), follows his best friend in the woods along with the rest of the Brothers and Sisters, chaos ensuing. A mirror to the 1980s, SCOUTS is a reflection on gender and stereotypes, a modern lens on a time long past, with fresh and wacky ideas that might just work. The Official SCOUTS Off-Broadway Cast also includes Alia Cuadros-Contreras, Amanda Harris, Brandi Campbell, Henry Dougherty, Stephen Andrey Lull, Kemari Bryant, Daniel A. Featured swings are Caitlyn Joyce, Rollins Mosley, and Steven Klenk. The production will feature music direction by Daniel Gittler (Waitress N'tl Tour) with Kevin Leahy (Hairspray N'tl Tour) serving as the associate music director. Rounding out the creative team are Ellery Pierce, Scenic Design; Matt Lazarus, Lighting Design; Brandon K. Bulls, Sound Design; Chikadibia Ebirim, Sound Mixing; Bennett Gundacker, Costume Design; Talen Piner, Choreography; Rachel Lebda, Assistant Stage Manager; and Emily Duncan, Producer and Company Manager. SCOUTS runs July 29 through August 27 at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village with preview night on July 28th. The Mothman is real.
