We were honored to have David Parks, Kirk Sharp, Dr. Michael Cheers, Wilma Moore-Black, and Carla Eckels visit Special Collections and University Archives yesterday to view the Gordon Parks Papers!
At Special Collections, Dr. Michael Cheers and David Parks examine issues of Circuit’s Smart Woman magazine, a short lived late 1940s African American lifestyle publication based in Chicago, for which Gordon Parks was the art director. David Parks is viewing the issue featuring his mother, Sally, on the cover. This publication is among many in which Gordon Parks played a role documented in his papers preserved, processed and made available by Special Collections.
More than 130 feet of correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, publication materials, books, and memorabilia comprise the Gordon Parks Papers at WSU Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives. Most of the material documents the last three decades of his life and career. The finding aid for the collection is at bit.ly/3nyRxIH; view digital items at bit.ly/40OSSJQ.
