Now that I am back home from Alaska, I have had time to reflect on the trip. The best part was being able to share such an incredible experience with my daughter who now has the wildlife photography bug. To see her wide grin when a bear is splashing behind us only 8 feet away was priceless. I found myself watching the bears more than actually taking photos. So many different bears, different ages, different colors.
Another very important part was meeting more like minded people who have a passion for photography and more importantly the animals. To meet new friends, having a great time. Scott Stone and Jackie Stone were amazing hosts, setting up a very comfortable camp in the middle of the Alaskan tundra.
And a special thanks to Kelton "JetBoil" Johnson, who would do anything for anyone at a moments notice. And KrisLuck Photography kept us entertained with his humor. Then there was Evan Watts working so hard to get good stuff for his video.
Also thank you Ed, Sirjindar (who graciously loaned me a memory card), Derrick, Josh, and Janna (my fellow back injury partner) for making this a memorable trip. I hope I didn't forget anyone.
Yes, social media is cluttered with Alaska bear photos, but that is not the only point of these trips. Being face to face with sows playing with their cubs or 1100 lb boars staring at you will leave a mark on your soul.
If you are a wildlife photographer and want a trip of a lifetime, do not hesitate to reach out to Scott Stone Photography. He knew the landscape inside and out, and could tell you what the bears were thinking, continually putting us in a great position for great shots.
