Sept. 4 will mark 10 years since the passing of Kim Mitchell, who was a well-known face at the Plant City Playhouse before she lost her battle to cancer in 2015. Today, she is honored at each show with the “Kim Mitchell People’s Choice Award,” an audience-voted honor given to an actor or actress at the end of each production. Kim’s theater involvement even led to her mother, Shirley Outen, and her late father, Frank Outen, becoming involved at PCE in the 1980s and opening Café PCE, where the famous Frank’s Heavenly Brownies are still sold today.

In addition to serving on the PCE board, Kim appeared in countless shows — including playing the sarcastic, strong-willed Ouiser Boudreaux four times in the beloved classic “Steel Magnolias.”

Kim’s life and legacy will be remembered this September with our fall production of “Steel Magnolias.” Directed by her husband, Tom Mitchell, and assistant directed by her daughter, Olivia Mitchell, we hope you’ll join us Sept. 26 - Oct. 3 for the love and laughs this show is known for - and to pay tribute to Kim and her impact on the local theater community.

UPCOMING AUDITIONS!

📣 Auditions are approaching for Steel Magnolias - for ONE NIGHT only!

📅 Auditions will be held at 7 pm, Friday, May 30, at the Plant City Playhouse, 101 N. Thomas St. in Plant City.

🎭 We are holding auditions for the open roles of Truvy (played by Dolly Parton in the film adaptation) and Clairee (played by Olympia Dukakis). No monologue is required. Auditions will include cold readings from the script. Please note all other roles have been precast.

💛 TRUVY JONES: The vivacious, warm-hearted beauty salon owner. Age 30s to 40s.

💛 CLAIREE BELCHER: The wealthy widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin, Louisiana. Age 60s.

🌸 This poignant story follows along the lives and friendships of six women in their small Southern community as they experience life’s celebrations and hardships.
