“Hi, I’m Sofia Vijay, a Dallas-based dancer and performer with 15 years of formal training in Bharatanatyam, along with experience in Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. Growing up immersed in Bollywood dance, I’ve always believed dance is one of the purest forms of self-expression.
I love blending my Indian classical roots with modern choreography and creating pieces that feel expressive, powerful, and culturally grounded. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform on stages across Dallas, including the Hype Choreographers showcases, perform at SXSW 2026 with indie pop artist Rehma, and most recently take the World of Dance stage with my team Desi Haven, where I served as one of the Creative Directors.
My goal with this class is to create a space where dancers of all levels can experience the beauty, intention, and depth of Indian classical movement. The piece will blend Bharatanatyam and femme styles, combining strong foundational movement with fluidity, expression, and storytelling in a way that feels both empowering and accessible.
I’m incredibly honored to be teaching at HQ because of what the studio represents within the dance community. To me, HQ embodies a deeper purpose behind dance one that goes beyond performance and technique, and instead prioritizes foundation, growth, and genuine respect for every dance form. I’m excited to contribute to a community that values culture, expression, and the essence of movement in such an intentional way.”
