Hi all, a long message about Mystery Cards & Games and the future Elves & Espresso store
After a very stressful few months, we’re making some drastic changes to Mystery and the pricing for the upcoming EnE LGS/Cafe/Bar.
I opened Mystery as a passion project while working as a full time trader - eventually Mystery became much bigger than I anticipated and we’ve run into challenges as we went from servicing a few hundred customers to tens of thousands around the US. The game has changed, pricing has changed, and things have become a lot less fun because of it.
For all upcoming products that have not been preordered out, we are no longer acknowledging the secondary market for pricing in-store. Going forward, all new products, for all releases, will be MSRP in-store. No loyalty program attached - if you arrive on pre-release day, you’ll know exactly what you’ll pay. This will be true for MTG, One piece, Gundam, etc.
Importantly - this does not effect products from the past. Prices will remain static for those so we can avoid a scramble for in-store staff.
I know there’s a lot of “drama” in regards to a situation that occurred with a former employee. As there’s an open police case and legal escalations happening in regards to that, we cannot publicly comment. I will share our perspective once resolution happens.
And finally - a lot of our attention is going into the upcoming LGS/cafe/bar that we’ve planned on opening in Plano. We are locking in locations now and have staff lined up for it, so we’re VERY excited to transition over to that concept once we finally get the doors open.
It’s time to return Mystery into what it originally was: a fun little passion project where we support the local community with competitive offerings and a place to play.
