Life in isolation is a bit more splendid when I can get my mind off of the horrors that surround us and retreat into music and moviemaking. That's when I go out to my Red Tape Studio.
Last year I had the pleasure of motoring on a 33' sailboat from Charlotte, Vermont to NYC and back. The trip took about 3 weeks. I took lots of pictures and video.
Too regularly my creative spark ignites in the evening and I find myself immersed in producing music into the early hours of the morning. I lose track of time and, with the light of dawn casting shadows, I sometimes wake up with a composition like this.
So, here I am, isolated, physically distanced from the risk of COVID exposure, with time to create, the fuse is lit, sometimes fueled by a glass of Tom Cat covering 3 ice cubes and a slice of lime, megabits of digital image and electronic music files to choose from and my trusted editing assistant, iMac (no need for a mask or staying 6 feet apart).
This is the result of several sleepless but blissful nights in the dark with only the glow of the screen and the sounds of manipulated electronic beats and textures coloring the silence...
This particular result is a quick 4 1/2 minute trip from Vermont to NYC on the water.
