Claire is a movement artist and educator whose practice draws together dance, internal martial arts, Chinese medicine, and theater. A certifying teacher of the Axis Syllabus, she has trained in Qigong, Taijiquan, and Baguazhang since 2010, and has spent years teaching movement in settings ranging from a Toronto college of traditional Chinese medicine to a seniors center in Guelph. Across all of it, her throughline stays the same: movement and healing practices as a way to deepen awareness, honor the integrity of the body, and open new possibility between people.

At the Nomadic College, she teaches Phase One: Common Ground with "TO-GATHER," a session drawing a parallel between the earth's tilt and orbit and the tilt and rotation within human movement. Framed by autumn as a season of gathering, the class moves into questions of assembly and agreement — dancing with design, and moving with the season.

Claire is one of several faculty teaching across the program's two phases, Common Ground and Fractalicious, running September 30 through October 11.

Second Sunday Jam: Center, Breath, Awareness with Helena Zhao 🌿

Next Sunday! 9/13

In this class we will practice core aikido principles through different exercises so that they may inform our dance. These principles will include peripheral awareness, moving from the center, and chi flow breath work among several others. Throughout the class we will propose inquiries into perception and awareness through meditation, solos, and duets. Come dance!!! 🙂

Helena Zhao is a multidisciplinary artist, craniosacral therapist, and aikido practitioner based in western Massachusetts. She dedicates her life to dance and the creative process as a contemplative practice, a place for experimentation, inquiry, curiosity, play, and equanimity.

Potluck at 5pm, class at 6:15pm, jam at 7:30pm. Sliding scale pricing. Pre-registration not required.

FALLING LEAVES JAM 2026 • Hosted by Asa Benjamin + Faith Rathbun

October 22 to 25, 2026

This fall, we gather to celebrate 40 years of Earthdance and turn our attention toward what comes next.

What seeds are we gathering now for the generations to come? How might we tend our relationships with greater intention?
What becomes possible when we bring our creative potential into relationship with one another?

The Falling Leaves Jam is an invitation to remember Earthdance’s lineage while continuing to shape a living, adaptable community for the future.

Compositional Awareness in Contact Improvisation, with Andrew Harwood.

Weight finds weight. A body leans, another catches, and a shape emerges that neither person planned alone.

This workshop moves between duet and group — the same principles of falling, supporting, and listening scaled up into ensemble composition. Andrew’s decades of practice bring a rare clarity to reading what’s happening in real time and responding with the whole body.

Base pricing ends September 2nd! Sliding scale rates available.

Meet Francesca, teaching Phase One: Common Ground this fall.

Her session, "Enquiring Beyond Form," sits with the layered perception of a moving body: the actions and reactions unfolding at once, how individual morphology shapes the way each of us experiences movement, and how our structures learn to absorb, resist, push, pull, draw close, or move away. At its center is a simpler question — how do we share a moment, and how do we share space?

Francesca is one of several faculty teaching across the program's two phases, Common Ground and Fractalicious, running September 30 through October 11.

We're each shaped by the path we've walked, and the one we're still walking. At Spiral & Root, we ask what that shape becomes when it meets another body on the floor.

Curiosity becomes a way of moving. A question is a duet. The dialogue that usually happens in the mind — proposing, exchanging, listening — becomes something the body does too: an impulse followed before it's named, a moment of being guided, of being surprised.

Three weeks of practice and reflection, held together.

We're back with another Garden Day! 🌱

Join us Sunday, August 16th, 10am–5pm, to get your hands in the soil. Earthdance's garden is grown organically, tended with the same presence and care that shape everything else here: soil work as its own form of creative living. Come learn a bit about sustainable growing, help with whatever the beds are asking for that week — bed making, planting, weeding, compost turning, harvesting — and share in the abundance. No tools or experience needed, just outdoor workwear and a willingness to get a little dirty.

Hosted by Neal and Shosei.

Stick around after, the day flows right into Second Sunday CI Jam, led this month by Dylan Cowie-Haskell.
