Swain Gallery is located in a wonderful Victorian house in the Crescent Historic Distric of Plainfield, NJ. For four generations the Swain family has presided over New Jersey's oldest privately owned art establishment. The gallery contains various rooms filled with a wide variety of original artwork (oils, watercolors, pastels, etc.), signed limited edition lithographs, hand colored engravings, re

productions, and posters. The framing room is lined with an extensive selection of framing samples that range from museum quality, to simple metal. Swain's quality reputation in framing is known throughout the metropolitan area, and beyond. The gallery tables are covered with giftware and decorative items, from fine china and crystal, porcelain and brass, to note paper, and cards. Swain Galleries is truly a unique shopping experience. From the expert framing, restoration and art consultation services, to the array of giftware and decorative accesories, or simply the welcoming pot of coffee on the antique stove, one can easily understand what kept people coming back over the many years for serious buying or just browsing.

Swain Galleries is excited to present “Good Natured,” a new exhibition of art work by Kat Block. This exhibit depicts Kat’s views of Nature in watercolor and mixed media. Her mixed media collages have the distinction of being so unique that they are considered a new art form.
Mark your calendars: The opening reception is April 11, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Kat will do an artist demonstration on May 16th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Swain Galleries is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., other days by appointment.

Real tulips won't be appearing any time soon, but there is a special event at Swain Galleries where you can make your own. Sandy Devaney of The Collected Garden is presenting a paper tulip workshop on Saturday, February 21st, from 10:30 to 12:00. All materials will be provided and light refreshments will be served. The workshop cost is $65.
Spaces are limited so pre-registering is a must. Please contact Sandy by email, thecollectedgarden.com, or instagram, , to reserve your place for a morning of creativity and fun.
