Why this seemingly big pivot for our business?

Hi, I’m Michelle, I started this business in 2019. The reason it was called Create With 614 was because our plan was to be a community, teach classes, etc. then COVID. So we focused on supplies/ecommerce and it worked.

I’m a veteran of the US Air Force and have spent the last 30 years behind a desk working in technology but predominately cybersecurity. My family operated the day to day of this business but my involvement in it was very little.

Last year my mom became very sick in August. I took FMLA only to come back to a role eliminated while I was gone. I don’t regret taking the time - my mom was one of my best friends. She sadly passed about 4 weeks ago after a 10 month in patient journey. The same time my mom was passing, my dad went to a routine dr appt and left in an ambulance. He spent 5 weeks in the hospital then also sadly passed June 6th. Losing both parents in a short amount of time is a lot of things but, especially eye opening.

There were a lot of things they didn’t get to do, they were only 71 and 72. So after some deep evaluation of my life, I’ve decided the time is right to pause on my corporate career and instead be with my family.

We are putting our heart and soul into building something that helps other people be successful, brings affordable items to homes and support a community. I’m bringing along with me my years of tech to help be innovative, my fiance spent 20 years in the military doing physical security and he’s thinking through how we manage security best, my son and daughter in law are bringing in creativity and thoughts that my brain just doesn’t do. We make a great team.

To the 100-ish people that have already applied to the mercantile, thank you. Thank you for believing in a vision without all the details.

This isn’t just another “vendor mall”. This is my calling to be with my family, honor my parents and help your goals be met.

One of the things we are considering for our members of the Mercantile, is to have a photo room available for you to use for shooting photos of your items or live selling. We are thinking that all members will get a set amount of time credit with their monthly fee, then you may purchase additional time if you need more.

Over 75 applications in 24 hours.

For awhile, this was just an idea around our kitchen table.

Today we've heard from artists, woodworkers, candle makers, potters, vintage curators, laser businesses, bakers, and families dreaming of turning a passion into something bigger.

Central Ohio is full of incredibly talented people who simply need a place to grow.

Our vision has never been to build another vendor market.

We're building a collaborative community where independent businesses can grow together through beautiful retail space, shared marketing, and optional business growth services designed to help makers succeed.

We're intentionally curating categories and looking for businesses that complement one another and create an amazing shopping experience.

We have some MAJOR changes ahead of us here at our small family business!

If you’re in our group, you already heard one change. We are moving our warehouse to Gahanna! The drive across 270 is too much anymore for us so, we are excited to be closer to home. Our plan is to be fully moved by the start of July!

The next big announcement is that we are expanding our business. While many of you know that we create home decor today for markets, stores and gifts - we have made a decision to expand on this area. We will soon have a collection of furniture and home decor/accessories available on our website for local pick up ONLY.
