Hello community!

The SSAW team would like to share two special cultural events happening this weekend, both free and open to the community. These gatherings are wonderful opportunities to come together, support local artists, and celebrate the arts.

Artist Talk- Corina del Carmel

On Saturday, December 20, at 6 PM, please join us at Art on Center (3184 Center Street, Placerville) for an artist talk by Corina del Carmel. Corina will share insights into her extraordinarily beautiful and thought-provoking paintings in a conversation held in both English and Spanish.

Classical Piano Concerts- Kiko Torres Velasco

Kiko Torres Velasco, a classical pianist, will be performing a solo concert on Friday, December 19, from 7- 8 PM at the Federated Church (1031 Thompson Way, Placerville). Admission is free, and donations are welcome if you feel inspired to contribute. If Friday doesn’t work for you, Kiko will also perform on Saturday, December 20, at 2 PM at the Christian Science Church (2950 Bedford Avenue, Placerville).

HUGE thank you to the community members who joined us for our gathering yesterday in which we created sugar skull blanks that will be used by ofrenda artists and school groups. 💀🌼🕯️

A special shoutout to Placerville’s mayor and other city council members for joining us on this day.

We also had the privilege of witnessing Art on Center receive a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program for their emerging space. Stay tuned for what’s to come from Art on Center!

💀 ✨SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 2025 SUGAR SKULL ART WALK ✨ 💀

The Sugar Skull Art Walk will not include a street closure this year, but we will continue the tradition of our art walk as in past years. Our mission remains the same: to place Latino and Indigenous art on Main Street in Placerville in order to bridge cultural and racial divides.
