GET READY FOR A BURST OF RHYTHM, MOVEMENT & CULTURE! 🥁✨

We are SO excited to welcome the Pittsburgh Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group to the Drum Fest Main Stage at 3:00 PM!

This isn't just a dance performance…

THE DRUMS ARE PART OF THE DANCE! 🥁🔥

The Pittsburgh Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group performs a traditional Chinese folk dance featuring red drums strapped around the dancers' waists, flying red ribbons, rhythmic drumsticks, and crashing cymbals — all set to festive, upbeat music. ❤️🥁

The tradition of waist drum dancing dates back approximately 2,000 years to Ansai in northwest China, where it was associated with harvest celebrations. Today, it is recognized as a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage.

And Pittsburgh has been lucky enough to experience this incredible group since 2016, with performances throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond.

Now they're bringing that energy to DRUM FEST! 🎉

We're bringing a little storytelling magic to Drum Fest!

We are SO excited to welcome Pittsburgh's own Tim Hartman to the Kids Zone Stage for TWO special Storytime performances! 🎭📚

Tim is a professional storyteller, actor, singer, writer, cartoonist, and performer who has been entertaining audiences since 1982. His specialty? Taking a story and turning it into an interactive, hilarious adventure that gets kids involved! 😂🙌

And with a career that has included Broadway, film, television, theater, and storytelling for millions of children, you KNOW this is going to be something special.

At 2:30 PM, we're excited to welcome Sahra Shimmies to the stage for a mesmerizing belly dance performance! ✨

Sahra is a Pittsburgh-based professional belly dance artist and instructor with more than 16 years of experience, bringing together incredible technique, musicality, movement, and expression. She has performed at festivals and events across the country and internationally — and now she's bringing her artistry to Drum Fest! 🥁💃

Get ready to make some noise at Drum Fest with Matt Price of DrumNexus, who will be leading a KIDS DRUM CIRCLE at 2:00 PM at the Drum Circle Stage!

Matt is a professional drum circle facilitator, educator, and lifelong drummer who believes rhythm has the power to bring people together, build confidence, and unlock creativity. He’s been facilitating drum circles since 2017 and has experience working with people of all ages — including kids! 🥁✨

And the best part?

You don't have to know how to drum!

This is an interactive experience where kids can jump in, find their rhythm, make some noise, and create music TOGETHER. ❤️

We are SO excited to welcome the Pittsburgh Paddlefish, Pittsburgh’s dragon boat racing team, to Drum Fest!

Dragon boating is all about power, teamwork, timing — and DRUMMING. A drummer sets the rhythm and the paddlers use that beat to keep their strokes synchronized as they power the boat forward. When that whole crew locks into the rhythm… you can FEEL it. 🔥

🐉 THE DRAGON BOAT LAUNCHES AT 1:10 PM!

So grab your spot along the waterfront and get ready to watch — and HEAR — this incredible team take to the water!

👀 PRO TIP: Check the Dragon Boat map and head toward the waterfront for the best chance to see and hear the Paddlefish as they launch! We marked the best viewing points.
