Shadows That Hold Me (Returning to Light) ✨
This is the most personal abstract piece to come out of the studio, capturing the thin line between leaving and staying during a moment of sudden, profound fragility. It explores the thin line between leaving and staying during a sudden crisis, shifting the focus to the profound spiritual protection that can happen in the dark.
While the central warmth signifies the deliberate choice to return to life, the heavy, dark depths hold the true key to that survival. If you look closely at the perimeter, there are a few subtle, hidden surprises woven into the textured layers of paint.
The darkness isn’t an empty void—it is a space of ultimate safety and love. Enveloped within those shadows are the spiritual silhouettes of family and friends, holding the soul steady until the heart could find its rhythm again.

An exploration of time, texture, and the quiet permanence of the natural world.

In this piece, I wanted to balance a soft, luminous sky with a deeply grounded, tactile foreground. The heart of the painting lies in those rich, organic textures—built through layering, translucent glazes, and elements of iron to mimic the ancient patterns of weathered stone and fossilized wood.

This new, smaller piece—'The Wintering Shore'—was inspired by a stunning photograph captured by my lovely daughter-in-law-to-be. I was so moved by the quiet, chilly atmosphere she found at the water’s edge that I had to bring it to the canvas.
