We fondly remember local jazz legend, Joe Negri, who passed away last Saturday, May 30, 2 weeks shy of his 100th birthday.

About 20 years ago, we commissioned him, along with Tom Roberts, to write the music for our concert (at which he performed with us!) "The Poetry of Jazz," which was a special highlight for the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh.

About 10 years ago, we performed his "Mass of Hope" and wanted to share it in remembrance of him - to celebrate how he was not only a brilliant musician but also a genuinely kind soul.

Sat and Sun only!! One of the highlights of Oscar Nods this weekend will be our featured soloist, Maria Becoates-Bey.

A Pittsburgh native, Maria is known for her powerful voice and compelling stage presence. Named a “Performer of the Year” by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, she has appeared in productions with Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, Pittsburgh Playhouse, and more. She was most recently seen in Fat Ham at City Theatre Company.

In Oscar Nods, Maria brings her signature artistry to a program of iconic film music—adding depth, warmth, and a powerful storytelling presence to songs you already know and love.

They’re all part of Oscar Nods.

This program travels across decades of film music, including:
• “Moon River” (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) — introduced in one of cinema’s most iconic scenes
• “Rainbow Connection” (The Muppet Movie) — a gentle, hopeful song that has resonated across generations
• “Under the Sea” (The Little Mermaid) — joyful, rhythmic, and impossible not to smile through
