As City Theatre nears the start of its 2026/2027 season, we invite you to join us on Monday, August 31st, for an artist happy hour to kick off the fall! The evening is a chance to connect with fellow artists and City Theatre staff, network, and share plans, projects, and hopes for the season ahead.

Our lobby doors will open at 6:00 PM with snacks provided and a cash bar available. To cap off the evening at 7:30 PM, we’ll host a mini playwrights’ slam in partnership with the CMU Center for New Work, featuring excerpts of plays in development by a handful of Pittsburgh-based playwrights.

Actors will play multiple roles in six fully produced one-act plays, so we are seeking imaginative, outgoing creative spirits who can easily shift between comedy and drama.

City Theatre congratulates Pittsburgh playwrights Gab Cody and Tammy Ryan on their selection to a nationally-curated list of "50 Plays by Women Over 50” assembled by HONOR ROLL!, an advocacy and action group of women+ seeking greater inclusion in theatre.

The group invited 180 theatre artists to nominate unproduced full-length plays by under-recognized women+ over 50. Of those titles submitted from across the country, Gab Cody’s “The Adventures of P***y Jones” and Tammy Ryan’s “The Boy King in Queens” were selected.
