PYSO Greece Travel Diaries Day 2️⃣

Our morning was a choose your own adventure! There were so many areas to explore including plenty of ancient UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Thessaloniki has been such a generous city of history and culture… next stop Kavala!

Lunch could have included souvlaki, gyros, kebabs, fritters, salads, and more.

The highlight of our day was preparing for our first concert in Greece in the Thessaloniki Concert Hall. We enjoyed a rehearsal at the scenic venue and wowed our sold-out audience with an outstanding opening night. Our performance also included a side-by-side with the Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra playing Beethoven’s Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus.

Did you know? The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra will travel to Greece for an international performance tour this June!

The upcoming tour was recently featured by TribLive; AJ Schmidt, Ilana Aranovich, and Wesley Kopanic highlight preparing for this exciting opportunity to perform abroad and represent Pittsburgh.

of the four PYSO members who participated in the Jeffrey Dean Memorial Recital at Fox Chapel Area High School.

“The Jeffrey Dean Memorial Recital has been established to showcase the talents of music students at Fox Chapel Area High School who have seriously studied a musical instrument through private training during their high school career.”

We are excited to share that Elliott was awarded the "Jeffrey W. Dean Memorial Award". This honor is presented to Fox Chapel Area High School seniors pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or university.

Congratulations to all recital performers for representing PYSO with excellence!
