This summer, The Public is honored to welcome Alumni Theater Company to the O’Reilly Theater for the first time for their upcoming production of the beloved musical Once On This Island, running July 31 – August 2.

Public Presents reflects Pittsburgh Public Theater’s belief that the O’Reilly Theater should be a shared civic space—one that amplifies regional artistry, supports cultural exchange, and deepens connections between audiences and the diverse creative communities that call Pittsburgh home.

About The Show
The Tony Award-winning musical "Once On This Island" is a vibrant, Caribbean-inspired production blending storytelling, movement, and music. Rooted in folklore and passed down through generations, this beloved tale invites audiences into a world that is joyful, poetic, and deeply human, reminding us of the power of the stories we carry with us.

Join Alumni Theater Company (ATC) in telling the story of Ti Moune, a fearless young girl who dares to cross the boundaries of class, culture, and even the gods themselves in pursuit of love. Guided by powerful forces and driven by an unshakable spirit, her journey unfolds into a moving story of sacrifice, courage, and devotion against all odds.

Filled with warmth, wonder, and unforgetting music, this production features 30 members from ATC's Teen and Professional Ensembles and is directed by Monteze Freeland (recently seen in Primary Trust). "Once on This Island" is a celebration of storytelling itself and a reminder that any voice can shape a better world.

As an amateur actress and full-time orthopedic nurse, as someone who craved great storytelling and compelling live performance, my grandmother was exactly that kind of person.
