MUSIC IN THE COMMUNITY THIS WEEKEND!! Tuesday Musical Club Member Eddie Leonard, will conduct the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh Saturday, May 2.

Today is the birthday of Pittsburgh native August Wilson, born April 27, 1945. Of his life’s work, Wilson said, “My greatest influence has been the blues.... The blues is the bedrock of everything I do.”

Though a playwright, Wilson pointed to music as the “bedrock” of his art, and we have the privilege of celebrating Wilson this Saturday as we perform the work of COP-commissioned composer Trevor Weston, Steel City Sounds, which incorporates the inspirations of Wilson along with Billy Strayhorn and Franco Harris into his piece.

You have the opportunity to be the first audience ever to hear this work — along with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 and the winners of our Young Artist Concerto Competition — this Saturday, May 2, 2026, 7:30pm at Rodef Shalom. Join us for a celebration of music, and of Pittsburgh icons, as the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh concludes our 2025-26 season.

Address

Pittsburgh, PA
