We are proud to announce that The Ocean – Five Years is now streaming on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.
This documentary follows Pittsburgh musician Brett McCutcheon, who lost his older brother Ryan in a car accident in 2017. Five years later, Brett turned that grief into an orchestral EP, recorded with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and The Voice finalist Chris Jamison. Director Jennifer Schlieper built the film around that music — track by track — letting the album carry what words can’t.
As a studio, we talk a lot about the power of story to move people. This film is proof of that. It was made with care, with intention, and with the belief that grief deserves to be seen honestly on screen.
The Ocean – Five Years has spent the past year on the international festival circuit, earning two Gold Telly Awards, a Best Documentary win at the Vienna Independent Film Festival, and an Oscar-qualifying selection at the Cleveland International Film Festival. It premiered on WQED Pittsburgh and launched nationally on PBS Passport.
Today, it reaches its widest audience yet.
