Pittsburgh’s art scene is ever evolving as a complex and dynamic city. Thank you and for mentioning ALMA | LEWIS contemporary art —we’re in good company. It was wonderful to read about the exciting things happening across the city pertaining to the visual arts. We are particularly elated about the innovative work Shikeith is creating —connecting communities, histories and futures. 🩵🌅

📚More Reflections on The Black Archive Speaker Series📚

During the final event, multidisciplinary artists Shikeith and London Williams concluded the dialogue through an examination of Shikeith’s work spanning photography, video, and installation. His engagement of themes such as intimacy, vulnerability, and interiority challenges us to reframe Black masculinity and illuminate its often unseen emotional landscapes.

We are excited to carry on the ideas and exchanges fostered here through future iterations of The Black Archive Speaker Series. Thank you to everyone who attended, listened, supported, and contributed to all three dynamic conversations!

🗓️SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28
⏰ 2:00 - 4:00 PM
📍ALMA | LEWIS — 6901 Lynn Way, Suite 206, Pittsburgh, PA

Join us NEXT SATURDAY FEBRUARY 28, 2026 for the next event of The Black Archive Speaker Series. Cultural worker, poet, and author Lissette Norman will be in conversation with creative, writer, and educator Kleaver Cruz discussing her new body of work titled “BLACK IS MY LUCK”.

“BLACK IS MY LUCK” is a personal journey exploring memory, Black Dominican identity and survival, grounded in family stories of displacement and laughter as resistance. Norman reflects on preserving her history through art and children’s books, and on navigating Blackness as a Dominican raised without the language for it. The project also insists that remembering our ancestors is not mourning, but a way of celebrating them and carrying their contributions forward.

Born and raised in New York City, Lissette Norman is an Afro-Dominican poet and author of the picture books “My Feet Are Laughing”, “Plántos Go with Everything”, and “Abuela’s Library”. She is also co-author of the picture books, “On the Line: My Story of Becoming the First African American Rockette”, “Until Someone Listens”, and “The Girl Who Sings to Bees”. Lissette was the 2025 Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Artist-in-Residence (Hill District).

This event is free with RSVP and open to the public. Join us for an afternoon of conversation, reflection, and community rooted in care.

“Her plants are role models, and the red-painted tires along the eastern boundary show that ‘we’re rolling; folks in this house are rolling.”
—“No Space Hidden”, pg. 3

In “No Space Hidden: The Spirit of African American Yard Work” by Grey Gundaker and Judith McWillie, we see how ordinary spaces carry memory, care, and creative expression. Élan Cadiz’s solo exhibition “Healing the Erotic” reflects this same attention to space, material, and daily practice, transforming the personal and familiar into sites of reflection, intimacy, and self-discovery.

Discover how these ideas surface within exhibition, as well as themes from the full booklist here at ALMA | LEWIS or on our website. 📚

Join us THIS SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7, 2026 for an afternoon of powerful conversation with professor, author, and literary advocate Tahirah J. Walker, Ph.D.

Together we will consider how lived experience—the people, places, and things that support our mental well-being—contribute to a culture of Black archiving.
