Merch Worth Wearing 👕👚

Get ready for some truth telling: our merch isn’t moving the way we want it to. And if we’re going to fix that, we need your help.

The Tamburitzans brand has been around for 90 seasons—and honestly, our merch history has been all over the place. We’ve had jackets, sweatshirts, T-shirts, CDs, DVDs, jewelry, dolls, coins… you name it. But as we head into our 90th Season, we want to take a step back and ask: What does Tamburitzans merch actually look like?

Think about some of the biggest brands out there. Are we more Taylor Swift (also Taylor Swift, come see a show!)—where people proudly wear the brand everywhere? Or more The Rolling Stones—where the logo itself becomes iconic? What would make you want to put on a Tamburitzans shirt, sweatshirt, hat or jacket and proudly say, “Yep. I’m a Tamburitzans fan.”?

We want to create merch that feels like us—our history, our students, our music, our culture and the incredible community that has supported us for 90 seasons. But we don't want to decide that in a vacuum. You are the people who buy it, wear it, give it as gifts and see it on our merch table. Your opinion matters.

So check out the poll in the comments and tell us what you'd actually like to see at the Tamburitzans merch table. Or, if you have an idea that isn't on the poll, drop it in the comments!

And don't worry—once we restock, everything we offer will also be available for purchase through our website, so you don't have to wait until you see us on the road to get your Tamburitzan on.

90 seasons. One brand. And we want to make it something you're proud to wear.

So… what should Tamburitzans merch look like? 👇

We've Talked About What Goes Into a Tammie Show. Now Let's Talk About Who.

Over the last couple of months, we've shown you a LOT of what goes into putting a Tamburitzans show on stage.

The costumes. The choreography. The music. The languages. The rehearsals. The tech. The travel.

But none of those are the most important ingredient. Guess what is?

Us ❤️

This year, there are 23 of us— 23 college students from different places, schools and backgrounds. On the weekends, we travel together. We rehearse together. We eat together. We laugh a lot together. And then during the week, we go to school together, or meet up to study together, or just hang out. It's like a marching band or a ballet studio if they were a sorority or fraternity. Honestly, we don't think there's another ensemble like it!

And here's some statistics on this year's incredible team.

📚 48% are Duquesne University students
🌎 22% are international students
🎓 35% are freshmen
❤️ 30% are legacy students—meaning they have a parent or grandparent who was a Tamburitzan
🇺🇦 22% have Ukrainian heritage

And the coolest part is every year the composition and numbers change. In fact, back in the 1980s and 1990s, the Tamburitzans regularly had 30–40 performers in the ensemble. Over the last decade, we've kept the group in the mid-20s.

Why?

Mainly, a smaller ensemble means we can maximize the scholarship impact for each student who gets the opportunity to be a Tamburitzan.

Different schools. Different majors. Different countries. Different backgrounds. Different stories.

But 100% Tammie. 💙

Now we're curious—what else do you want to know about the 23 students who make up the 2026 Tamburitzans?

Drop your questions or ideas for fun facts in the comments! 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥, 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙏𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙯𝙖𝙣.

We can't wait to see you on stage. ❤️

We Had to Start Somewhere! 👣

Before the costumes, the touring, the stage lights, and the 45-foot bus… we were just kids. 😂

Drop a pic of your Tiny Tam below and remember, we are now accepting inquiries for next year's ensemble! Check out the comments to submit and a recruiter will be in touch with you soon to get you started on your Tammie journey!

What Does “Folk” Look Like in America?

When you think about the Tamburitzans and the word “folk,” you're probably thinking Eastern Europe. Tamburas. Accordions. Lots of dancing. Definitely not banjos.

But here's the thing: America has folk traditions, too ✌️

And they're a pretty incredible mix.

American folk music grew out of the traditions immigrants brought with them. But those traditions evolved into music they created here, and that music, passed down and reimagined again and again and mixed with the heritage of others, birthed something completely new. Appalachian ballads, blues, gospel, spirituals, bluegrass, cowboy songs, work songs, Native traditions, immigrant music—you can find pieces of all of it in what we now think of as American folk and Americana.

And there have been different moments and places where those traditions really took off. Appalachia became a center for old-time and traditional music. The Mississippi Delta shaped the blues. New York's Greenwich Village became a major hub during the American folk revival of the 1950s and '60s, when artists like Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan brought folk music to a whole new audience.

And honestly, that's part of what makes folk so interesting. It doesn't stay put. It changes as people change. It's not static, it's alive!

In 1969, the Tammies traveled internationally as part of a U.S. State Department goodwill tour to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. And while audiences got to experience the Eastern European traditions that have always been at the heart of the Tamburitzans, we also brought a little bit of American folk and Americana along with us.

In our 90th Season, we wanted to celebrate the confluence of Tamburitzan folk and American once again.

This year's show ends with an American Finale, our own homage to the music and traditions that have helped shape American culture.

And if you haven't seen the show yet, your next chance is this weekend in Columbiana, Ohio!

📸 Welcome to the Wall of Fame!

There’s a little Tamburitzans tradition that dates all the way back to 1937…

Every Tammie who has come through our doors has had a professional headshot taken. Over the years, those photos have appeared in promotions, playbills, program books, and plenty of other Tamburitzans materials.

But their most important destination?

The Tamburitzans Wall of Fame. 🥹

At our former home, the Tamburitzans Administration Building (TAB), generations of Tammies lined the walls of the main hallway — literally putting nearly 90 years of Tamburitzans history on display.

So when we moved into our new space, keeping the Wall of Fame alive was one of our top priorities.

Today, those familiar faces adorn the outer wall of our office and conference room space, where performers, visitors, and alumni alike are immediately drawn to it when they walk through our doors.

And getting your picture on that wall? It’s a rite of passage. A little piece of being a Tamburitzan that you simply can’t get anywhere else. ❤️

And now… we’re getting ready to add some new faces. 👀

We are SO excited to reveal the newest members of the Tamburitzans Wall of Fame!

Give us a 👍 if you’re as excited as we are to see them! And DM us if you'd like to come see the Tamburitzans new home - we'd love to show you!

We dance. We play. We… golf? ⛳️

Okay, okay. We may be better at dancing than golfing. 😂

But there’s a pretty important reason we’re getting out on the green this September: our 16th Annual Swing “Fore” Scholarships Charity Golf Outing is coming up on September 21st!

And for us Tamburitzans, this one really matters.

The Tamburitzans are made up entirely of full-time college students. That means the people you see performing on stage are also sitting in classrooms, studying for exams, writing papers… and trying to figure out how to pay for college. 😅

This year alone, the Tamburitzans will provide nearly $300,000 in scholarships to our students, including more than $70,000 specifically for students attending schools outside of Duquesne University.

And we need to keep that support growing.

Our goal from this year's golf outing is to raise $50,000 for student scholarships — money that directly helps students stay in school while doing what we love on stage. The golf outing is our largest annual fundraiser, and nearly 60% of the money raised comes from our incredible sponsors.

So whether you're a golfer, a business owner, or just someone who wants to help keep this program going, there's a way for you to be part of it!

🏌️ PLAY — Grab your friends and register for a foursome! It's $165 per golfer, with breakfast, an indoor driving range, an 18-hole best-ball scramble, games, cevapi at the turn, lunch, live music and more.

💙 SPONSOR — Sponsorships are a HUGE part of making this event successful. From tee box sponsorships to presenting sponsorships, businesses get great visibility throughout the event while directly investing in the next generation of Tamburitzans.

🙌 VOLUNTEER — Don't golf? We still want you there! There are plenty of ways to help make the day happen.

Because every time you sponsor a hole, register a foursome, volunteer, or help spread the word, you're helping make sure students like me can keep going to class Monday through Friday and performing on stage on the weekends. Plus, it's a pretty great time, just check out some pictures from past outings below!
