On to our director for N+1, Lou-Lou Mason!

Lou-Lou is an award winning director, working across film and theatre, championing projects in social impact, with women at the centre of the story. Lou-Lou has presented work at National Theatre, Soho Theatre, Theatre 503, Camden People’s Theatre, with a range of new writing. Lou-Lou’s latest film, Asparagus, was finalist in the 2025 Slick Films Fund and her next project is a film adaptation of Closure using the stage play by Anna Jordan. Lou-Lou is thrilled to direct the rehearsed reading of N+1, a beautiful and important play about women’s experience, mental health and one of Lou-Lou’s own lifelong loves: cycling.

Cathy here:

The thing I have learned about myself since I started writing N+1 is that I simply can’t give myself a window to write in.

If I have an idea or a the mood takes me I have to do it RIGHT NOW, no matter how inconvenient that might be.

So this play has been written on a computer, a tablet, in phone notes, in voice notes, in 3am WhatsApp messages to myself and a liberal smattering of .
, I realise this isn’t sustainable as I need to do crazy things like… work and sleep.

Any suggestions on how I can trim myself to write in a more sensical fashion?

BTW, N+1 has its maiden rehearsed reading, next Tuesday 6th Jan 7pm.

On to our writer, .

Cathy received the greatest gift that anyone can possibly receive in Christmas 1984 - a red Raleigh Apple with a basket and a h***y horn and a life-long passion was born.

Cathy has, in her time owned 12 bikes and has loved them all (apart from that one she threw into a bush in rage, somewhere in Leeds.)

She’d like to say that she won’t buy any more, but she doesn’t like to make promises that she can’t keep.

Cathy trained as an actor at Bretton Hall and and has worked on productions including 21 Round for Christmas at The Park Theatre, for which she was nominated for an Off West End Award, BBC Casualty and Gulliver Returns for Dawn State Theatre.

N+1 is her debut as a writer

It’s just three weeks until our rehearsed reading of N+1 is in three short weeks and we’re so excited!

So let’s meet the cast and creatives, starting who will be playing Rick.

London born and bred, Abel has been acting since childhood, and has a Drama and Theatre Arts degree at Goldsmiths University - where he established himself as an original, collaborative theatre-maker and performance artist and most recently trained at ArtsEd on the MA Acting course.

He has performed at the TARA Arts Theatre, as well as acted in independent film projects and appeared in an advert for television before graduating from ArtsEd last summer. He is particularly drawn to comedic, darkly comic and anti-hero roles and most recently played the lead role Will Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love at the Andrew Lloyd Webber Theatre.

We’re so lucky to have him!

Draft one is done!

It took a while, but IT IS DONE. IT EXISTS!

I made a thing and it only took me being stuck ill at home and unable to stand up very well for me to get round to it.

Now for the edits…

Please do come along and see it. It’s on at on the 6th of January and it’s got a brilliant cast - and as Molly and Rick and the ever luscious is directing and generally reigning in the silliness!

Deeply excited to announce that our first play, N+1 by Cathy Conneff will be part of The Hope Theatre‘s !

They say the correct amount of bicycles to own is N+1, where N= the number of bikes you currently own - but exactly how many can Molly acquire before she and Rick reach
S-1 (where s = the number of bikes owned resulting in your partner leaving you)?

A woman, a man and a sh*tload of bikes.

Also giddy with excitement to have the amazing Lou-Lou Mason directing with Celia Middleton playing Molly and Abel Weston as Rick.
