The Baron of Deadwood Well (long story below if you care)
I am actually so happy with this portrait of my beloved Baron! He lost his nearly 8-month battle with cancer earlier this week. When he first got sick, I tried to paint him. I wanted to capture him in all his glory while I still couldβhis fins were so vibrant, especially when the light passed through them and they would flash brilliant red. But that first attempt just really fell short...
This lead me on a campaign to learn how to capture light. I have been learning, practicing, bashing my head off my desk, etc. as the Baron slowly weakened. On Monday morning, he did not wake up. I took one day to grieve, and then set to work.
I finished this painting yesterday, and I feel such a sense of relief. This is him, and I will be framing it and displaying it proudly in his honor. Thank you, Baron, for the 3 years we had together. Rest easy, little friend.
