We had an amazing time at our first Open Mic event! Shout out to Alexis Monique In My Section Inc. and our MC Kevin "Too Much" Dempsey for their talented artistry, and getting real and vulnerable with us 💜 Stop by our bookstore to purchase your own copy of "SOAP" by Alexis Monique and "(s)words" by Alex Finn, poetry that feeds the soul.

Thank you Toni Blackman , Jade, Mina, Aedan, Erin, Thea, Amaya and the lovely Dr. Akilah Trinay (owner of RP Books) for showing up and showing out on stage 🔥

Your stories and support keep our indie business going and make community not just an idea, but a vision made real. Stay tuned for more Open Mic dates in 2027! If you see yourself, drop a tag and comment below 😊⬇️

RP Books is organizing an event on Small Business Saturday called the “Old Town Holiday Shop & Stroll” on Saturday, November 28th from 10 am to 3 pm. The event will consist of local vendors and our surrounding Old Town Pittsburg businesses where shoppers will have the opportunity to buy from their local, Pittsburg businesses. This is a great opportunity to support our local businesses here in the community and to encourage local residents to do their holiday shopping local. The event will take place starting at RP Books where local vendors will be tabling inside, then shoppers will have the chance to branch out and visit our surrounding local businesses to do more of their holiday shopping.

If you are a local, Pittsburg business, vendor, or indie author interested in participating, and would like to table inside RP Books or possibly in a neighboring business, please sign up for the event using the link below.

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day 💜 Indigenous stories matter. Indigenous voices matter. Indigenous history matters, every day! 🪶📚 RP Books acknowledges that we stand on the ancestral homeland of the Ompin people of the Bay Miwok.

Long before Pittsburg became the community we know today, Indigenous peoples lived, learned, shared stories, and cared for this land. Just as it was in many lands around the world. We honor their history, resilience, descendants, and enduring culture.

Representation matters and education begins with the stories we choose to read. Stop by and explore our collection of books that celebrate Indigenous voices.

We have a special afternoon planned with Michael Roosevelt, author of "The Black Panther Party Ten-Point Plan: A Liberatory Journal".

As 2026 marks 60 years since the founding of the Black Panther Party, this conversation will explore the historic Ten-Point Program and Roosevelt’s reimagining of it as an interactive journal centered on reflection, self-determination, community, and collective transformation. The Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland in October 1966, making this year its 60th anniversary.

Come hear from the author, learn more about the inspiration behind the journal, and join us for a powerful community conversation. Bring a friend and meet us at RP Books! ✊🏾📚
