“Kudos to my latest, greatest singer. Bursting with pride over your performance.” — Susan Laushman, referring to PHS Activities Director Jeff Staley, aka Minnie the Moocher.

[As a sixth grader, a music teacher told Staley he shouldn’t bother trying to sing — he was tone deaf. At age 57, he proved he could do anything he set his mind to, with Laushman’s guidance and encouragement.]

Pittsburg Community Schools USD 250

Take a bow, Mrs. Laushman! Last night’s concert was one for the books! Mrs. Laushman works all summer each year to create the choral arrangements for the music in the MultiGen show — or in other words, to write out the musical score for each vocal part — then during rehearsal all fall, she plays piano accompaniment and directs.

The choreography was written and taught to the choir by three seniors: Keller Erwin, Ella Rhuems, and Tate Campbell, who also put in a great deal of time.

A heartfelt thanks to the amazing audience tonight — we felt your energy! — to Susan Hodges Laushman and Todd Hastings for their musical direction, and to the staff of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts for their help in making this production a reality! What memories we made with each other this fall!

"This is a whole new thing for me, singing a solo on stage, and I have to admit it makes me nervous. But I wanted to venture outside my comfort zone, which I know is good for me, and I know it's also good for the students to see. If this helps inspire them to do that themselves, it's a win-win. This is a great program, and I'm proud to be a part of it!" — Jeff Staley, PHS Activities Director and soloist in this year's concert ("Mini The Moocher")

"I have been in the choir since 2017 when my granddaughter Audrey Goode and I performed together. I love to sing and perform, but it is a special joy to work with all these wonderful students. Their enthusiasm and energy is contagious! — Bernadette Vogler
