Belly Acres had a great 2018! Albums recorded at Belly Acres Studio were released by Poison Orchid, Robot Jurassic and The Collaterals. We also worked on projects for Daniel Hill of YellowTieGuy, Steve Szy, Dan Springston, and my favorite teenage band Flippin' Eyelids. The Robot Jurassic EP is finished and out for mastering! Troy Glessner is working on it. This fella has done a ton of stuff including Underoath, Disturbed and Death Cab for Cutie.

Where in the world are the Poison Orchid tracks?
Right this second they are at Abbey Road Studios in London!
They are being mastered there, sonically working their way through amazing analog equipment and being adjusted by the same ears that have worked on songs by Radiohead, the Pixies, Paul McCartney and the Beatles.
This picture is of me in London last summer. Kudos to anyone who comments and tells me which Beatle I am imitating as I walk across Abbey Road. Bonus points if you can do it without looking at the album cover!!

We’ve wrapped up “DONT GIVE UP THE SHIP” from Poison Orchid. This is an amazing album and I can’t wait until everyone gets to hear it. This is easily the most ambitious project that I have worked on here at Belly Acres Studio. A few factoids: It is a 12 song full length album. The two main creative forces are Geoff Kilian (songwriter, vocalist and guitarist) and Stephen Szy - Stephen Szybowski (arranger and multi-instrumentalist). Over a dozen musicians contributed to the album adding quite a variety of sounds and textures. Besides your standard guitar, bass, drums and vocals, you’re going to hear violin, flute, pedal steel, piano, mandolin, banjo, sax, trumpet and more. We spent a year and a half tracking and mixing the record. (disclaimer: the studio isn’t my full time job so there were time constraints, plus the album was self-financed by Geoff so we worked when there was money available)
You can expect to hear great songs that have a ‘vintage’ feel. Some definite nods to the Beatles and the 1970’s are sprinkled in. I think that everyone who worked on the album feels that Geoff is a remarkable songwriter and talent, and we have the highest expectations and hopes for the project!
I'll share some other interesting news about this tomorrow!!

I spent Presidents' Day weekend making a video with my favorite teenage band. I'm posting it here because it has some nice background footage of the studio and it lets you hear how the studio can sound for a live recording with no overdubs.
